The latest exhibition at the Swan Gallery (upstairs at the Swan pub in Horndon on the Hill) opens this Sunday evening 6th April at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come to the opening event.
THE Lowe family, who live in York Ave Corringham, are dedicated supporters of St. Luke’s Hospice. So when buying a new sofa for their recently decorated lounge without a second thought they donated their unwanted sofa to St. Luke’s Hospice Shops – unbeknown to them they also donated their family cat "Crockett" who was hiding inside the sofa.
THE public spaces will host an exciting events programme which may include farmers’ and Christmas markets, street theatre, music shows and live screenings of big sporting events throughout the year. The spaces can also be used to host some of intu’s events which have a strong point of difference to those you may find at other shopping centres, such as Everyone’s Invited which works with the local community to showcase talents within the arts.

THE 100th anniversary of Britain’s entry into what was to become the First World War, or the Great War will be marked on Monday, 4 August. Tilbury Fort will be the focus of the day-long free Great War Open Day which will start with a short remembrance service to acknowledge the sacrifice made by at least 883 Thurrock soldiers and the many others who suffered.
Thurrock Council – with Essex County Council and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council – have been working on the system across the county and the Automatic Vehicle Location System is now active. The councils will continue to work with bus operators and other partners on further upgrades for the system.

ACTUALLY, it is 49 years and seven months but who is quibbling. How many of us could stand in the shoes of Dave Sach from HW Wilson's, who is retiring after nearly half a century of service with the South Ockendon firm. Dave (65) is working on his final job at the Thurrock hospital grounds in Long Lane, Grays but has many happy memories since he started with the firm back on August 6th, 1964.
Both students were entered into the Society of Biology Olympiad 2014 just before Christmas and had to undergo a series of tests including a 90 question test online, completed in less than two hours, under supervision. A2 student Emily was awarded a bronze medal for her efforts and has been invited to a classy awards ceremony at the Royal Society of Biology where she will get to meet Professor Alice Roberts, known for presenting BB2’s Wild Swimming and The Incredible Human Journey.
AVELEY Village Community Forum is moving its monthly meetings. With attendances at the meetings getting bigger and the Centre busier, it has been decided to move the meetings to the Aveley Christian Centre and change the date from the 3rd Tuesday to the 3rd Wednesday.

THE tug “Coburn” had been engaged in towing lighters up the river. All went well until the tug passed Purfleet, where the tide sweeps down from Long Reach at a terrible speed. Just as the tug was passing that part of the river opposite the training ships “Arethusa” and [?], she was struck broadside on by a mighty wave and before she could recover herself she was struck by a second wave, which caused her to founder.
