Liftshare lunch boost for Foodbank

Million pound lottery boost for Coalhouse Fort

OVER a million pounds is to be spent on Coalhouse Fort in East Tilbury over the coming few years. The trigger for the huge funding boost was a successful bid for £790,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, supported by a further £110,000 from Veolia North Thames Trust and further cash and in-kind support from Thurrock Council, bringing the total project value to £1.25 million.

Police probe sex attack in South Ockendon park

ESSEX POLICE are investigating a complaint regarding a sex attack in an Ockendon park. A teenage girl reported that she had been assaulted by a male in Quince Tree Park, South Ockendon, on Sunday December 15th between 9pm and 9.30pm.

Over 50 calls after fire at Little Thurrock car dealership

FIRE CREWS attended at a car showroom in Little Thurrock after a building caught fire. Towers Road in Grays closed in both directions between the Rectory Road junction and the Cement Block Cottages junction, because of a building fire at car dealership.

Profit for Stanford primary PTA at Christmas Bazaar

THE Gardening Club will also receive all of the money raised through the donation of Alan Farenden and the hard work of the Stanford Knitting Nannies (although, technically, not all of us are indeed Nannies)!!! This money will be used in the future work planned to improve the Conservation Area in the school.

Chadwell preacher remembered at memorial service

A MEMORIAL service has been held to remember Chadwell preacher, Cathy Mhlaba and her 16-year-old son Beki Ali, who died in a car fire in Thorpe Bay. Ms Mhlaba preached at an evangelical church in Chadwell St Mary.

Rotary Club raise christmas cheer at Sainsbury’s

Over the weekend around 16 club members collected from the generous folk of Thurrock raising over £1,100.58, whilst Christmas Carols serenaded the shoppers. The money raised along with funds from other ventures will be gifted to local & international charities at the club's Annual Charity Awards event on 19th May 2014 at Langdon Hills Golf Club.

Flood risk maps for Thurrock updated

THE ENVIRONMENT Agency is updating its flood risk maps to show the risks of surface water flooding. The maps already show flood risks from rivers, the sea and from reservoirs, however the updated maps and new surface water maps should raise awareness of flooding risks so people, communities, businesses and relevant agencies and authorities can take action to reduce the risk.

Thurrock Writer’s Circle: Xmas report

THE Thurrock Writer’s Circle enjoyed a party night for the last meeting this year. Barbara Spencer was delighted to win the annual Christmas competition with her short story The Yew Tree and received a cheque and a Trophy which was created by Mary Vear.
