THE REDEEMED Church in Tilbury have a number of events over the festive spirit that may not be good for the waist line but appear to be very good for the soul.

Driver sought after hit and run in Chadwell

A DRIVER of a car is being sought after two pedestrians were struck in Chadwell St Mary on Friday afternoon. The incident happened on Thames Drive in Chadwell St Mary at just after 1.30pm.

Christmas report from Bulphan WI

Police name victim in “family related incident” Orsett shooting

POLICE have named a man found dead at his home address in Hemley Road, Orsett, on December 3 2013 as 61-year-old Robert Heaven. A post mortem was carried out on December 5 2013 with an initial cause of death given as a single gun-shot wound to the head.

Aveley store has licence suspended after under-age sale

The council’s licensing sub-committee, meeting on Wednesday (11 December), was considering the case of Pradip Kantilal Sedani the licensee and Designated Premises Supervisor at Aveley Supermarket, trading as Londis, in Romford Road, Aveley. Members were told that on the afternoon of Friday, 2 August this year, a 15-year-old girl – volunteering with Thurrock Council’s trading standards team – visited six stores, but at Aveley Supermarket she managed to buy a 275ml bottle of Smirnoff Ice.

Terry Waite, Henry Blofeld to appear at Essex Book Festival

FAMILIAR names once again visit Essex to bring readers great insights into their work and lives. Bestselling author Joanna Trollope launches the Festival on 3 March by introducing her new novel Balancing Act. BBC Essex presenter Dave Monk will be in conversation with Joanna at the University of Essex in Colchester. Internationally renowned novelist Joanne M. Harris talks about her new epic fantasy The Little Book Of Loki at South Woodham Ferrers (19 March). That marvellous master storyteller Gervase Phinn joins the Festival on 6 March with the third in his Barton-in-the-Dale stories and national treasure Henry ‘Blowers’ Blofeld will regale audiences with his life in and out of cricket on 13 March at Layer Marney Tower. Terry Waite recalls his time travelling the world with the late Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie on 27 March in Chelmsford.

THE Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus invites people from across Thurrock to find their voice at a special taster session on Monday 13 January 2014 at 7.15pm at the Ormiston Park Academy in Aveley. THE search is on for the next Prince’s Trust team aimed at unemployed people aged between 16 and 25 who will finish the 12-week course with four recognisable qualifications - Level 2 Food and Hygiene, First Aid, Level 2 Health and Safety, and the Prince’s Trust national Certificate Level 1 Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills.

Stanford community celebrate twenty years service from Rev John Guest

IN December 1993 after a long interregnum, Bishop Laurie inducted Revd. John Guest as Priest in Charge of St Margaret's Stanford le Hope with Mucking. John was one of the first priests inducted by Bishop Laurie who was also a new Bishop.

West Tilbury WI: Christmas report

CHRISTMAS cards were exchanged and everyone received a secret Santa Present. The patrons of the Old White Horse were entertained with a rendering of Jerusalem when the group sang their well known signature tune with gusto.

Nativity play takes place at Orsett Pound

IT IS one of the great traditions in Thurrock. The Nativity play in Orsett took place at the Pound on Tuesday night. The play always has a look that it has remained untouched for many years. The play is the work of the Orsett church working closely with Orsett primary.

Dog poo costs Chafford man over £1,700

A CHAFFORD Hundred man will be receiving a bill for over £1,700 after allowing his dog to foul in a public area and not clear up afterwards. On Monday (9 December) at Basildon Magistrate’s Court, 31-year-old Paul Halcrow, of Plymouth Road, Chafford Hundred, was found guilty in his absence of allowing his boxer dog to foul a grassed area near his home.

New sponsors added as Civic Awards seeks to showcase borough

IF YOU want to go and see a pantomime that is for everyone then you must go and see Jack and the Beanstalk at the Thameside Theatre. They work so hard at the Thameside to make sure the audience is involved, engaged and made to feel good.
