SAMUEL Partridge from Gable Hall School has been announced as the winning pupil from South Basildon and East Thurrock in the local round of a national school manufacturing competition. The We Made It! competition invited 11 – 14 year olds throughout the UK to let their imagination run wild and design a brand new product or gadget.

ONE OF THE great traditions of the Thurrock year is the switching on of the Christmas lights at Tilbury. The crowds came, the weather held off, the choirs were wonderful and Thurrock MP, Jackie Doyle-Price came along to switch on the lights.
THE Thurrock Community Safety Partnership is warning people that thieves enjoy Christmas shopping too. Between the end of October and mid-November thieves stole eight handbags, nine sat navs, and eight mobiles phones left in plain sight in parked cars.
THURROCK Council tenants at the Piggs Corner sheltered housing complex in Grays, celebrated their Christmas Party on Wednesday (4 December). Sixty tenants enjoyed a three-course meal laid on by staff and followed by fun entertainment from the Tilbury-based band No Nonsense.

THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price has called on planning minister Eric Pickles to veto controversial plans for 501 new homes on the site of the former London Fire Brigade sports and social club at Aveley reports the Thurrock Enquirer. The application was approved, against the advice of officers, by a narrow majority of councillors at last month’s planning meeting. Those councillors who backed it said they were doing so primarily because of the community benefits including a £500,000 donation to Treetops School, contributions to new school places in the Borough, a £1m contribution to Aveley Community centre and provision of news sports pitches and changing rooms at Belhus Park.
BY the age of 19, Stan Franks had completed 31 missions over Germany during the Second World War. At 88 years old, Stan Franks was found dead in his Fobbing, where he lived alone. He was found after his neighbours became concerned about his welfare and they had asked for police to inquire about his well being.

The free blue plastic bags are being given away to residents so they can recycle more this festive season There are 12 supermarket giveaway days across the borough, but if you cannot make it to an event near you, you can collect the bags from your local library or area office, the Civic Offices in Grays or from the Orsett Village Store and Bulphan Village Store ahead of Christmas.
