WHAT a lovely evening, conductor Daryl Barber gave an excellent performance, guiding the choir singing in their first Christmas concert for this year. It was entertainment at its highest. There was audience participation when Daryl began his Christmas introduction and led into the first song.
ON SUNDAY 24 November, Thurrock Marching Brass travelled to Stafford and entered contestants in 11 different categories for the 2013 British Youth Band Association hosted Individuals & Ensembles Competition. The competition saw contestants categorized by age, and by chosen speciality of Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Mallet (all types) and Colourguard, brings together some of the very best talent in the Marching and Performing Arts arenas here in the UK .
THE judges had said: A beautiful venue set in lovely grounds. Judges were impressed by Orsett Hall’s attention to detail, wonderful testimonials and a clear and transparent pricing structure. Judges also commented on the value of the assigned ‘Guide for Brides’ to assist couples with decisions beforehand and to support them on their big day.
OWEN WOOD has been jailed for nine years for killing Liam Holden. Liam Holden, 35, was killed by Wood in the early hours of Sunday, March 10 in the car park of Morrisons, near to Eurolounge in Grays reports the Thurrock Gazette. Wood, of Godman Road, Chadwell St Mary was found guilty of manslaughter on October 4.

GRAYS rotary are set to hold their christmas concert at the Civic Hall. The event comes as part of their fund-raising activities over the festive period.
NGAGE, the community organisation and Volunteer Centre for Thurrock are holding their annual Festive Fun Night this year on Wednesday 11th December between 4.00pm and 7.30pm at the Civic Hall, Blackshots, Grays. The event is completely FREE and includes free entertainment, craft and play activities for the children, mince pies and refreshments and much more. To top it all, Father Christmas has promised to drop in with a sack of free gifts for children under the age of 10 (limited to first 200).
PEOPLE across Thurrock are being invited to nominate their local heroes for the prestigious civic awards. The 11th Thurrock Civic Awards will be held on Friday, 21 February and there are 11 awards up for grabs covering all aspects of life in the borough – including Olympic legacy, environmental hero, supporting local communities, creative excellence, healthy living, lifetime achievement and the Rachel Middleton award for outstanding courage and bravery.
THURROCK Council’s car parks will be free on each Saturday in December this year. Cllr Angie Gaywood, the council’s portfolio holder with responsibility for parking, said: “For the past couple of years we have made parking free in our pay and display car parks and roadsides on each Saturday in December.

Skanska has been building the South Essex College campus since the start of the year and it will be complete in time for the first intake of students in September next year. Leader of the council and local Grays councillor, John Kent, said: "This is great news. Grays town centre hasn't had a Christmas tree for at least seven years and I'm really grateful to Skanska for their generous Christmas gift."
