Panto cast take a trip to Lakeside

REHEARSALS have now started and the Pantomime opens at the Thameside Theatre, Orsett Road, Grays on Friday 6 December 2013 running to Sunday 5 January 2014. Leading the cast is the lovely Natalie Cassidy as the Fairy, who we all know as Sonia Jackson in EastEnders and more recently Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother. Essex Boy Jay Perry will be taking on the lead role of Jack and is well known for being part of the teen pop group S Club Juniors, who had a string of hits in the noughties. West End star Wain Douglas who has been a favourite with the audience at the Thameside Panto in recent year’s returns as Dame Tilly Trott.

PARENTS of children who will be going to school for the first time next September, are being reminded to make sure they register in time. Cllr John Kent, Thurrock Council’s education portfolio holder, says he visited a number of primary schools in recent weeks and was reminded that parents must make sure they register before the deadline.

Palmer’s girl Georgia set to give them a twirl in Belgium

BTEC Sport student Georgia Stephan has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Twirling Championships in Belgium next year. Following on from this success, she recently won gold in the Super X Strut twirling category where she was crowned national champion.

Bulphan WI: November report

THE meeting on Wednesday, 11th December will be a festive occasion: we start at 7.30pm and members and visitors are asked to bring a plate of party food to share; we will have wine/juice flowing and most of the evening will be devoted to interactive games, where we will get a chance to demonstrate our team spirit. All will have a Christmas theme. As well as having a good time, we will be thinking of those we may be able to help, with an opportunity to make a donation to Thurrock Women’s Refuge.

No booze licence for you Mrs Robinson…

THURROCK Council’s licensing sub-committee rejected an application for the transfer of a licence for a Grays shop selling alcohol after strong police opposition. The current premises licence holder for alcohol sales at Trey Food and Wine in Clarence Road, Samuel Shonubi, was seeking to transfer the licence to Jamila Robinson.

Fire in flat in Stanford-le-Hope

FIRE CREWS were called to a fire in a first floor flat in Ryde Drive, Stanford-le-Hope. The property was 100 percent smoke logged, crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to extinguish the fire by 09:48hrs on Sunday morning.

Benyon: Library visit spurs students to read

THE children at Benyon Primary School enjoyed a visit from our local library, to receive their free Book Start packs. Sally from the library showed the children how easy it is to become a member of the library. She then enjoyed sharing the Charlie and Lola book as the children read along with their own copy of the book.

East Tilbury woman fined over noise pollution

AN East Tilbury woman has been fined and had good seized from her home after she breached a noise abatement order three times. On Friday (22 November) magistrates at Basildon considered the case of Lolita Mbaki, 27, of Queen Elizabeth Avenue, East Tilbury.

Dr Bike visits Woodside Academy

EARLIER this term Woodside won the Thurrock Bike It challenge and in order to keep his promise of cycling a mile for every child’s bike or scooter journey Tim had to cycle to Brighton and back twice. On her own initiative last week a Woodside pupil raised over £50 with a sponsored bike ride to add to the academy’s £750 for Children in Need raised by a cake sale.

Horndon mums trek Grand Canyon and raise £11,500 for Breast Cancer Campaign

Nancy Smith & Andrea Nunnery both from Horndon on the Hill have just returned from a trek into the Grand Canyon in aid of charity Breast Cancer Campaign. The journey took them into the centre of the canyon, through the Havasupai Reservation at its base and then ascending all the way up on the last day of their hike.
