On the crest of a wave for Ebb and Flow

REHEARSALS are in full swing for the Thurrock Community Chorus production of Ebb and Flow at the Civic Hall on November 30th. YT popped into rehearsals at the wonderful new facilities at Ormiston Park Academy.

Artists open their doors at High House

MANY of the 40 or so artists now working in the High House Artists' Studios in Purfleet opened their doors to visitors on Saturday 16 November. There was a steady stream of interested people flowing through the recently opened building throughout the afternoon. This was the first of such events organised by Acme Studios - who are behind the whole set up - which will be repeated regularly in the future.

Bonnygate gets green light to expand

PLANS to expand a Thurrock primary school are set to go ahead after Thurrock Council’s cabinet agreed the move on Wednesday (13 November) evening. Following a consultation which showed most people were in favour of doubling the intake of Bonnygate Primary in South Ockendon from one form of entry (30 pupils) to two, members backed the £1.8 million plan.

Diabetes voluntary group final meeting of the year

NEW figures show that 250 more people in Thurrock are living with diabetes than a year ago and the figure for 2020 is expected to rise by a further 1,600. The Thurrock Goup meets every month to support local people living with diabetes and raise awareness of the condition. A number of activities throughout the year also raise funds for the benefit of anyone with diabetes locally and donations are also made towards research projects.

Thurrock Gospel Choir Christmas concert

ST Mary’s Little Thurrock is please to welcome the Thurrock Gospel Choir for a Christmas Concert on Wednesday 4th December at 7.30 at St Mary’s Church, Dock Road, Little Thurrock. THIS is a great way to get ready for Christmas. Admission is free but offerings for the Thurrock Food Bank can be made at this event. The concert will be followed by refreshments.

Glittering prizes at Palmer’s awards evening

THE majority of prizes are provided by the William Palmer College Educational Trust, who generously give a huge amount each year to the students in prize money and help with financial assistance in other areas. This is a unique benefit that the College and its students are fortunate to have. Other prizes are kindly sponsored by individuals or local businesses with a current or past connection to the College. This year saw a new prize, the Health & Social Care Award in memory of Anthonia Afelumo, kindly sponsored by The AOFAC Foundation. Anthonia a former Palmer’s student, sadly passed away in September 2012, and was herself nominated for a prize last year, which her mother collected on her behalf.

Tilbury set to be lit up at Christmas lights switch-on

ONE OF THE highlights of the Tilbury year is the switch on of the Christmas lights. You have to come down and enjoy it. The organisers from the Tilbury Riverside Project and others put in such a lot of effort.

The Ratpack at The Oriental

DUE to the success of our first live music event at The Oriental with JD Fitzgerald, AKA The Soulmachine and Kai Mckenzie as Michael Buble, they have decided to host a monthly live music evening and our next event is scheduled for Thursday 21st November 2013 with Dean Ager singing songs from The Ratpack era tracks from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr to smooth away the evening.

McQuade put on their dancing shoes for Children in Need

THE MCQUADE dance school joined hundreds of dance schools around the country in attempting to break the world tap dancing record at the weekend. The school put on their shoes at the Beehive in Grays to show what they could do.

Operation Christmas Child opens in Thurrock

FOR THE first time in 23 years, Thurrock is opening its first Operation Christmas Child processing centre and they hope to collect over 2000 boxes.

Children in Need not just a piece of cake for Aveley youth centre

IT seems like the young people at the Aveley Youth Centre have been baking cakes for weeks. They have held two fund raising events with homemade cakes as the centre point. At the first they made cakes at home and brought them into the centre to sell and raise money for McMillan Cancer Support. Then it was the turn of Children in Need.
