Play equipment destroyed after arson attack on pre-school

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after more than £1000 of fire damage was caused to children’s play equipment. The damage was caused at Little Roos pre-school, in Dock Road, Grays, after play equipment and rubber matting was burned and melted.

THE NEXT Police and Crime Commissioner public meeting discussing crime and policing issues will be the second event in Thurrock and will take place on Friday November 22, 2013, starting at 5pm, in South Ockendon. The PCC aims to hold a public meeting in every district of Essex twice a year, working with colleagues from Essex Police, Community Safety Partnerships, district and unitary councils, partner organisations and the voluntary sector. Guilty plea to callous thief who left driver in Purfleet “for dead”

LEONARD Willsher, aged 41 from Basildon, has today pleaded guilty to several offences that left a 58 year old delivery driver fighting for his life. David Fletcher from Upminster was making deliveries in Wood Avenue, Purfleet on July 9, 2013 when two men jumped into his lorry and attempted to drive off. Mr Fletcher chased after the lorry, but was pushed in the face by the driver, and fell to the ground. His lorry then drove over him, leaving him with serious multiple injuries.

Council promise free parking permits for residents close to South Ockendon

PEOPLE living close to the railway station on the Flowers Estate in South Ockendon will be receiving free parking permits for up two to vehicles by the end of this year says Thurrock Council. A lengthy process – including two inconclusive consultations and an equally inconclusive public meeting – showed that people living in one part of the estate were keen on the permits, while others were not.

Christmas bazaar set for Dexter Close

STAFF and residents at Thurrock Council’s Dexter Close sheltered housing complex in Grays are hosting a Christmas bazaar at the end of the month. The event will be on Saturday, 30 November between 10.30am and 1pm to raise funds for regular outings and other social events for the tenants in the coming year.

Disgust as yobs vandalise army land rover belonging to fallen war hero’s father

THE AVELEY community were left disgusted at the weekend after mindless yobs vandalised a land rover that belongs to the father of fallen war hero, Nicky Mason. Dennis Mason had parked the khaki coloured Land Rover on Aveley High Street on Saturday night, close to the war memorial, in preparation for the remembrance service on Sunday.

Community safety message spread in Corringham

THE Thurrock Community Safety Partnership has been raising awareness of crime prevention in and around Corringham following an increase in domestic burglaries. The day of action was supported by Essex Police, the council’s community safety, trading standards, and housing teams as well as members of the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Ockendon resident saved from house fire

FIRE CREWS were called to a fire in a mid terrace property in Mayflower Close, South Ockendon. Crews reported that the fire was at the rear of the boiler, firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire by 21:21hrs (Nov 9th).

Police warning over latest telephone fraud scam

POLICE are warning people in Thurrock to be aware of a variation of a telephone fraud scam after a number of people reported dubious phone calls yesterday (Fri Nov 8). Four people, in Leigh on Sea, have contacted police after they were called by men claiming to be from the Metropolitan Police or a company running a competition.
