Police warn against Stanford-le-Hope vigilantes

POLICE have urged for caution after reports of possible abductions and assaults in Stanford-le-Hope have been the subject of fevered social media speculation. Police state that notices posted on social networking sites about potential white van men following teenagers in the Stanford-le-Hope area should be treated with caution. Officers are investigating a handful of reports during the past few days about historic sightings of a white van but without much detail. At no stage has any teenager the subject of any attempted grab.

He has written a book ‘Soil Sweat and Tears’ giving his experiences. He showed a variety of tools that he finds the most likely to do the easiest job for the best results.

Another store caught out by under-age sales sting

SEVEN out of eight premises visited by Thurrock Council’s trading standards team on Thursday (31 October) refused to sell alcohol to underage people. The latest of the team’s sweeps to ensure shopkeepers follow the law in sales of cigarettes and alcohol was carried out during the half term holidays in Grays, Stanford-le-Hope and South Ockendon.

Community make a difference day in South Ockendon

NGAGE, the community organisation for Thurrock held a ‘Make a difference day’ event at the Foxglove estate in South Ockendon. The day was organised in October to support the CSV’s national ‘Make a difference’ the UK’s biggest month of voluntary action. Princes Trust volunteers helped out with the ‘make a difference day’ as part of a community project. Annette Lewis, community worker for ngage said: "We had such a fabulous day and were overwhelmed with what was achieved. As well as giving the centre rose bushes a much needed pruning and weeding the giant tubs, volunteers litter picked the estate which included a Halloween litter pick scavenger hunt.

Police called after girl offered sweets by driver in Grays

POLICE are appealing for information after a girl was offered sweets by an unknown man in Grays. The ten-year-old local girl was approached by a man while in Belmont Road just before 3.15pm on October 22.

Thurrock writers circle: October report

THURROCK Writers Circle Chairman Joy Ridgewell welcomed Patricia Pound to the meeting. A published author, Patricia’s first book was of the old Romford Brewery. She was asked to write a book on all the stories she had gathered from the people that worked there as they reminisced as she was working as a welfare officer at the brewery.

THE new Thurrock Campus in Grays town centre will September 2014 will include restaurants, health facilities, shops and an advice centre. There will also be specialist workshop and studio spaces linked to courses for technology, media and creative arts, and facilities for art, design, logistics, engineering and IT courses.

Community lead bid to help restore Stanford-le-Hope war memorial

MEMBERS of the Stanford community have joined forces to help restore the Stanford-le-Hope war memorial. Stanford West councillor Shane Hebb, Stanford community forum chair, Terry Piccolo as well as ex-serviceman Luke Seeley and a number of others have made a pledge and started a restoration fund to give the memorial a complete overhaul so that it is ready for 2014, which will mark the centenary of the Great War.

Peppa Pig proves porkular in Grays High Street

GRAYS High Street was jammed with fans on Wednesday (30 October) as their favourite television character came to town. The Grays Town Partnership (GTP) organised the fun as Peppa Pig paraded for her fans. Mums, dads and their little ones had the chance to meet and have photographs taken with the star – and Tiggy, the Thameside tiger - as well has having their faces painted and name-badges made in the two marquees set up in the High Street.
