ON Saturday 26th October 2013 local people joined Thames21 Volunteers (Total of twelve) and removed sixty black bin bags of plastic rubbish, five shopping trolleys and other items from the Thames foreshore at Grays Beach. This event was delivered by Thames21 at the request of local resident Robert Chinnery who assisted with the organisation. The activity was supported by Thurrock Council and Thurrock Yacht Club.
ASIAN family homes are being targeted by organised gangs of burglars who are stealing valuable, heirloom gold and jewellery – with one taking place every three days in Essex. The "clear and present” warning from police comes in the run-up to several religious festivals, with the Hindu festival of Diwali only days away. Essex Police’s awareness campaign is looking to counteract the rising burglary numbers and any surge in such "pre-planned” raids, with particular focus on prevention, security and insurance.
Grays Shopping Centre toilets have been awarded grade Gold, in this year’s ‘Loo of the Year’ awards. Grays Shopping Centre is proud to be receiving the Gold award in recognition for providing a great restroom facility for all their shoppers. The award comes after a major overhaul of the customer toilets which were officially opened by the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Yash Gupta MBE last year and are the only ones in the town centre.
ON Sunday 3rd November, Community Church Chafford Hundred will be moving across town from Harris Academy to the Vue Cinema, Lakeside. This exciting opportunity is due to the school being closed for essential internal work.

NGAGE, the community organisation and Volunteer Centre for Thurrock are encouraging people who live or work in Chadwell St Mary to take part in a survey about providing a new Community Hub or centre for the area. The Centre will provide a new way for public services and local communities to work side by side to create a new type of service delivery that puts local people in the driving seat. This will enable local people to access support and do more for themselves without relying on statutory provision.

Essex Savers is a savings and loans co-operative who help people to save money and provides loans at an affordable rate. It can also help with budget planning, issue pre-paid debit cards or set up special accounts for housing benefits plus many other services.
THURROCK Council have launched this year’s Stop Means Stop Campaign. It is aimed at drivers who fail to stop at school crossings and are rude and abusive to school crossing patrols. Drivers are legally bound by the 1984 Road Traffic Act to stop at these areas.
Maps can be collected from Your DIY Centre Ltd St. Johns Way between 9.30 and 3pm. Children are encouraged to come in fancy dress in order to get extra treats from the shop keepers along the way. We have goodie bags for 200 children on completion of the hunt (All free to enter) and a prize draw for the adults. Free face painting and a children's entertainer that will visit some shops along the way.
VOLUNTEERS and residents of South Ockendon are being asked to take part in a ‘Community Clean Up’ day on the Foxglove Estate on Friday 31st October from 10am to 2pm. The clean-up has been organised by ngage to support the UK’s biggest annual volunteering event which has been expanded to take up all of October in 2013.
THE next litter-pick at Aluric Field in Chadwell St Mary will be at 9.30 am on Saturday November 9th. The Chadwell community forum ask all residents and even non-residents to come along if you can spare a couple of hours.
POLICE are warning members of the public to be on the look out for a two foot square black box which contains asbestos that has been stolen from a car.
The box is a Safety Industries Negative Pressure Unit which has been used in the professional removal of asbestos. It was stolen from a vehicle which had been left secure in a car park in Killara Church Road, in Corringham, at sometime between 4pm on Monday October 21 and 6.15am on Tuesday October 22.
ARMED police arrested a man wanted by police in Chafford Hundred. Officers attended at the car park of Bannatynes in Howard Road at just after 11.30am after reports that a man wanted by police was there.
THAMES 21 will be holding their second big beach clean up on Saturday 26 October between 11am and 2.30pm and will meet up next to Thurrock Yacht Club to get ready to do battle with the Thames mud. The group are inviting volunteers along to help clean up the Grays beach and foreshore area and all equipment will be provided – including wellies, litter pickers, on–site hand washing facilities and some essential light refreshments.
THE ISSUE of online safety is a concern of many people who use the internet. With this in mind, Thurrock Council are running “keep yourself safe” sessions for young people aged 10 to 14 years. Each session will give practical tips which will help anyone who is concerned about important issues like keeping personal accounts secure online and ensuring passwords are protected.
