Job Advert: Support and Development Worker

THIS is an exciting employment opportunity to be the primary ‘Support & Development Worker’ providing strategic administrative support for the work of Thurrock Faith Matters. The role will include supporting the TFM Steering Group, and being personally and actively involved ensuring the development and growth of TFM across Thurrock. This is a 1yr fixed term contract but may lead to increased hours or a longer term contract. The post requires flexible working hours.

West Thurrock Community Forum AGM

A MEMBER of Thurrock Council’s strategic planning department and a representative from St Clements Health Centre are guest speakers at the West Thurrock and South Stifford Community Forum Annual General Meeting. Nominations for officer roles and committee membership can also be made at the meeting. It will take place at St Clements Church, in London Road, on Thursday, July 4, and starts at 7.30pm.

Smiles all round as families enjoy Bike Week

THERE were plenty of smiles all round as families joined the Family Bike Ride from Davy Down Pilgrims Lane to the RSPB Reserve in Rainham. This was one of many free National Bike Week events in Thurrock with the HGV Awareness Day at Lakeside drawing a lot of attention and interest as people discovered the blind spots from a lorry driver’s perspective.

Grays Flower Festival: Travel, trips and adventures

A BEAUTIFUL three day festival called Travel, Trips and Adventures. The venue is St Peter's and St Paul's church in Grays. Includes concert by CDOT and special presentations.

On care home open day: Muriel remembers…..

FRIDAY was national open day at care homes throughout the country. Runwood Homes opened their four homes in Thurrock. Staff at Whitecroft worked in fancy dress whilst there was a seaside theme at Leatherland Lodge. Runwood make great stress on keeping memories alive. With that in mind, we spoke to resident Muriel, who reflected on holidays in Weston-Super-Mare in the 1930's.

Stanford and Corringham residents help the homeless after fire

THE GOOD PEOPLE OF Stanford and Corringham have rallied round to help the families who were made homeless following a fire. The two families lost their home after fire swept through the two properties in Langland Place on Sunday night.

Stanford set to rock

It is getting harder each year to keep the festival free and we have had to dip into our reserves this year. To help top up our reserves and to start the fundraising for next year we have taken out a Just Giving number so if people enjoy the day they can text TSMF13 followed by £2 to 70070 to help us out.”

Thurrock remembers on Armed Forces Day

The service was held in front of the Civic Offices, attended by The Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tony Fish, Cllr John Kent, Reverend Darren Barlow and MP Jackie-Doyle-Price who raised the flag. Jackie Doyle-Price also introduced surviving members of the Bomber Command team of the Royal Air Force who have now been awarded medals for their outstanding courage and hard work. They were joined by many other men and women from Thurrock who had served in the armed forces along with council staff and local residents to pay their respects.

Horndon gearing up for Feast and Fayre

THE HORNDON FEAST and fayre is set to be a celebration of Viking history and old Thames folklore. Held on June 29th and June 30th, the fayre has something for everyone. It is one of the highlights of the Thurrock summer diary.

Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions star in soccerbility tournament

AFTER only three training sessions together the TLS football found themselves in the Basildon Soccerbility Academy Tournament. TLS were narrowly defeated by local rivals Thurrock MENCAP 1-0 in a tight game. TLS did even better in the last game of the day against Basildon 2s earning a well deserved 1-1 draw. Scenes of jubilation greeted the TLS first ever goal.

Spruce-up your neighbourhood

MANY residents want to spruce-up and clean their neighbourhood and Thurrock Council’s environment team does what it can to help. Last week the council helped students tidy up a Tilbury park and now it wants to remind people that if groups want to organise a community clean up, the team can provide litter pickers and bags and where possible a free collection service for the rubbish.

Travel the green road

AROUND 19,000 homes in the west of Thurrock will be visited over the next few months to encourage more people to car share or use something other than a car to get around. Personal Journey Planners (PJP) will be knocking on doors in Chafford Hundred, Ockenden and Aveley offering advice on travelling in and around the borough with the aim of highlighting healthier, more environmentally friendly and economic ways of travelling.

Warren looking forward to Summer Fayre

There are also some great prizes to be won. Spur Steak & Grill is sponsoring a kids colouring competition, offering a first prize of a Nintendo Wii.  Fantastic raffle prizes have been generously donated by other local stores and businesses, including products from Lush Lakeside, food vouchers from both Spur Steak & Grill and Oriental Pan Asian Restaurant, Vue cinema tickets and Partyman World family tickets.

Motorists advised of the next phase of A13 roadworks

ROAD users are reminded to subscribe to the email alerts system on www.a13roadworks.co.uk, which will provide advanced warning of changes to traffic management, allowing them to better plan their journey. Diversion routes will be signposted and kept to a minimum. Road users should plan their journey and allow extra time whilst the restrictions are in place.
