THERE were angry and upset scenes at the weekend after demolition work began at the premises next to St Peter and St Paul church in Grays. There has been many a twist and tale in the saga of 76 High Street and this looks like another turn.

THE WEATHER has not always been kind to the North Stifford Village fete but this year the sun did indeed shine of the village green. The fete took place on Saturday and there was plenty for residents and visitors to see and do.

Elephants for sale as part of intu Lakeside auction

THE tour, presented at intu venues around the UK – including intu Lakeside from 5th May to 1st June 2014 - has been a first in so many ways, with a mission to raise lasting awareness through art of the future of the Asian elephant. More than 8,000 people have submitted design ideas, 75 schools have created half sized elephants that have joined the tour, a digital show reel has taken the art online and many people have taken part in live painting workshops with UK tour artists. The exposition has justifiably been referred to many times as ‘the people’s parade,’ having connected directly with many millions of people.

Couple sought after theft of Tag Heuer watches from Ernest Jones at intu Lakeside

It is alleged they went into Ernest Jones at around 1pm on Thursday, June 12, opened a display cabinet and removed three Tag Heuer watches worth just over £10,000. Stanley among the cycle marathon heroes!

ONCE again, veteran cyclist and charity campaigner, Stanley Wall put us all to shame as he took on the Thurrock Cycle Marathon. Chadwell man, Stan completed the annual Thurrock Cycle Marathon in just three hours.

AMID positive news today from the Office of National Statistics showing that unemployment has fallen across the UK, intu has released a report which show its centres' employment figures and economic contribution. intu's Economic Contribution Report, conducted by Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners, reveals that intu Lakeside is one of the region’s biggest employers, delivering 6,249 jobs, accounting for 9% of the region’s total employment.

Diversity’s Perri Kiely and Jordan Banjo to Beat the Street in Grays

OCKENDON favourite Perri Kiely and fellow Diversity member Jordan Banjo will be showing their support for Beat the Street Thurrock in Grays town centre at 12 noon Saturday 14 June. The dance troupe stars will be signing Beat Box cards between 12 noon and 1pm in a marquee outside Subway, High Street, Grays.

Bulphan WI: June meeting

THE June meeting saw the members along with three visitors gathering in the village hall car park with engines running ready to set off on a car rally. They soon had to turn them off again as the answers to the first couple of questions were located around the hall. They then left in intervals to follow a set route around Bulphan & West Horndon seeking out the clues to answer as many questions as possible. The route also took them past several member’s houses.

Tragedy as dog dies in Ockendon lake

FIRE CREWS were called to a dog reported to be trapped in the reeds around the lake at the Marley Fishing Club in Stifford Road, South Ockendon. Fire crews deployed a boat to the lake and used a rescue path to search for the missing Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Champion children take first steps in Beat the Street

THEY were getting in their stride for the start of Beat the Street Thurrock which officially begins on Wednesday June 11. The walking game will challenge everyone in the borough to walk a collective total of 25,000 miles in seven weeks – the distance around the world. As the children regularly walk to school they have been chosen as ‘walk to school champions’ for the game.
