Liam Holden murder trial to start on Wednesday

TWO men will appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on September 18 for their trial for the murder of Liam Holden who was killed in Grays on March 10, 2013. Owen Wood, now aged 24, and Ryan Wood, 21, brothers both from Godman Road in Grays are charged with murder and the trial is expected to last at least three weeks.

Appeal for witnesses as car nearly mows down pedestrians in Tilbury

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Tilbury where a car nearly collided with pedestrians on a crossing on September 3. A man has been arrested for motoring offences. It was around 5.30pm on September 3 when a car was reported driving dangerously along Feenan Highway in Tilbury. The car was driving near the pedestrian crossing opposite the Daisy Fields, Tilbury and narrowly missed colliding with parents and their children.

Police send report to CPS over “Gypsy Cesspit” remarks

ESSEX POLICE has submitted a report to the Crown Prosecution Service over allegations that comments made by a Thurrock councillor incited racial hatred. Councillor for Corringham and Fobbing, cllr Mark Coxshall, said a traveller site in Corringham could “become a cross between my big fat gipsy cesspit and Shameless”.

Tilbury councillor in court on fraud charges

A THURROCK councillor has appeared in court on charges of fraud. Clare Baldwin (40), Byron Gardens, Tilbury appeared at Basildon magistrates court last month.Ms Baldwin was charged with making dishonest representations so as to obtain housing and council tax benefit. Ms Baldwin has pleaded not guilty and will appear at Basildon Crown Court at a later date.

Police appeal after cyclist hit by vehicle at Purfleet level crossing

BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for information after a cyclist was knocked to the ground by a vehicle jumping a level crossing in Purfleet. Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place on Friday, 23 August, to come forward.

Special court to be set aside for eighty accused of illegal street racing

EIGHTY drivers have been summoned to a special court hearing for speeding offences connected to illegal street racing in Thurrock. A courtroom at Basildon Magistrates’ Court has been set aside to hear the cases on Monday September 30.
