Les Balkwell made over 130 complaints to the IPCC against Essex Police, of which 92 were investigated. The IPCC upheld in full 11 of the complaints, partially upheld eight and the remainder were not upheld. Predominantly they involve officers’ actions and decision making during the initial investigation in 2002.
The collision happened in Purfleet when Darren Maeder was struck by a silver Mercedes CLK at 7pm on Thursday, February 17, 2011. The 37-year-old man, who lived locally, was certified dead at the scene. The car driver failed to stop at the scene.
Mantos Banevicius, 25, of Chobham Road London and Evaldas Petruseicius 27 (same address) pleaded not guilty at Basildon magistrates court to the charges of going equipped with diesel canisters and security de-tagging devices.
A STANFORD-LE-HOPE man pleaded not guilty at court today (Thursday) to an assault on a police officer. Sean Thorpe, 35, Bishop Road, Stanford-le-Hope was charged with assaulting the officer on the 12th January at Andersons.
On November 17 at 6.15pm a suspect stole an estimated £1,098 worth of cosmetics. Investigating officer, Pc Emily Lurton, said: "A significant amount of cosmetics, including L’Oreal cosmetics, were stolen and we need to catch the person responsible. If you recognise the man in the CCTV, please do the right thing and call us.”
The court looked in shock as the youth raced through the streets of Tilbury. The voices of the officers in the helicopter could be heard and they clearly shocked when the youth, at speed, mounted the pavement and skimmed past a young mother who was pushing a pram.
The court was also informed she had been overpaid £7,027 benefit by the Department for Work and Pensions, who would be taking separate action against her.
Grimes was sentenced to a 12 month community order, with 12 months supervision by the Probation Service. She was also ordered to complete 120 hours unpaid work while under supervision.
The investigation was then hampered when property from the car was found to be missing, namely a Tom Tom sat nav and an iPhone. Enquiries were then made into the alleged theft of these items and Anthony Brown, 49 of Cruick Avenue, South Ockenden, who was then a security guard with the recovery agent, was arrested on suspicion of the theft. A thorough investigation resulted in charges for theft, which Anthony Brown pleaded guilty, at Court in December 2011.
TWO SUSPECTED metal thieves evaded capture this morning (Friday) after attempting to break in from a former school. A security guard at the former site of Treetops school at Dell Road, Grays contacted police at just after 9am this morning.
“A big part of our job is also to disrupt the lives of those we suspect are committing the crime. Although successful prosecutions are not always brought against people, we will continue to target those who we have intelligence to suggest are committing crime, and wreaking misery on the lives of hard working and decent residents of Thurrock.”
Ds Eileen Mullins said: "Thankfully the suspects didn’t get into the flat, but they used a considerable display of force in their efforts to try and get in, and we need to catch them. Did you see anyone in the area with a sledgehammer or do you know who they are? Please call us if you have any information.
Adam Fairbrass, 29, of Queen’s Way, Ipswich, and Trevor Summers, 28, of South Ockendon in Essex, were sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court to a total of 16 years in prison.
At around 1.45am at the Formula One hotel, Weston Avenue, Thurrock, six vans and three trailers were set alight. All the vehicles appear to have Lithuanian registration plates. Then at just before 10pm at a yard in Motherwell Way, Grays, the cabs of three petrol tankers were set alight. The fire service prevented the spread of the fires from the cabs.
DI Rob Coan, from the force’s Public Protection Unit, said: "Paul Simmonds has connection in both Thurrock and Havering in east London. Therefore, we are appealing to residents in both areas for information to locate him.”
