Ofsted pleased with progress at East Tilbury Junior School

GOVERNMENT watchdog Ofsted has made a number of positive observations after a recent inspection at East Tilbury Junior School. The visit was the first monitoring inspection since the school was judged to require improvement following the section 5 inspection in February 2014.

South Essex College student makes his mark

THE Tovi EcoPark which has been named after the site’s Saxon heritage is currently being built alongside the A127, and will process black bag waste, recovering further items which can be recycled and treating the left over waste to reduce its environmental impact.  The facility will be capable of treating up to 417,000 tonnes of municipal waste a year.

Fundraiser to help Young Carers in Thurrock

STUDENTS and staff wore yellow to mark the day and gave donations to the cause. Sarah Allen, Centre Manager of the Young Carers Organisation, said: "A big thank you to Palmer's College staff and students for the donation, which will help towards the daily transport costs for our young carers."

Ofsted recognise improvements at Lansdowne Academy in Tilbury

THE inspectors praised progress as improving with rising outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics, with very low levels of entry at Nursery and reception. They also found strengths in leadership, governors and teaching at Year 6 and in Early Years. They found pupil’s behaviour good and that the school has a well developed spiritual, moral, social and cultural ethos.

YEAR 2 teacher Natasha Moore explained: “Mountfitchet Castle offered a unique experience for the children to travel back in time 900 years, to witness life in a Norman Motte and Bailey castle and village. In a fun and imaginative way, the children discovered and learnt about the lives of Norman people by exploring the many houses and exhibits reconstructed as they were during the Norman times.”

Music with distinction at Palmer’s College
