THURROCK'S Adult Community College has impressed Ofsted inspectors, moving from the Satisfactory category to Good. The college, based in Richmond Road, Grays, but with bases across the borough, scored “good” judgements from the inspectors in all three areas - outcomes for learners, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, and effectiveness of leadership and management.
ORMISTON Park Academy is very pleased that it has filled its sixth form quota for the academic year 2013 – 2014.
Unfortunately this means there is now a waiting list for other students keen to become part of the OPA 6th form.
With the completion of the multi million pound new build of OPA School looming, it opens in September, has created a demand for places. The state of the art facilities will provide OPA6th with fantastic opportunities combined with the outstanding pastoral care, creates a safe, unique and striving environment.

PALMER'S College Student Executive will be hosting a Charity Pamper event for the community this Thursday 21st March, 6-9pm at Palmer's College, Chadwell Road, Grays. The event is a special event dedicated to helping raise much needed funds for a local family in Grays raise money for their toddler, Blu Hill who was born with Cerebral Palsy and needs a life changing operation (£50,000) as well as special equipment to support Blu.

A highlight of the week was the book character fancy dress coinciding with World Book Day on Thursday 7th March. Staff and children dressed up as favourite characters from books old and new demonstrating a wide range of reading. There were characters from Dickens and JK Rowling but most popular of all were the green-haired Oompa-Lumpas from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The Royal Opera House needs people who are trained and skilled in the type of work that they do. In their costume or make-up departments people with degrees apply for jobs but they don’t necessarily have the technical skills or work experience that they require.
LOUISE Coates, Headteacher at Bonnygate Primary School in South Ockendon has been selected as a finalist for the 2013 Pearson Teaching Awards, Headteacher of the Year. The Arisdale Avenue school’s deputy head, Gareth Jones, was on hand to meet the judges last week (wednesday, 27 February).
He added: “We will also take £100,000 from reserves to support efforts to help the young unemployed in our borough the so-called NEETs. “It is important we play our full part, with partners, in doing all we can to help these youngsters find training or a job.
EAST Thurrock United football club has been granted a significant donation by the Veolia Mardyke Trust to replace their ageing floodlights.
To mark the event and to celebrate the community involvement of both the Trust and East Thurrock United, the club has joined forces with Treetops Special School in Thurrock and has entered the Ryman Disability Cup.
DIVERSITY United is a performance show that brings young people from diverse backgrounds together in a fun and safe environment. Their aim is to get talented young people from local schools to perform in front of their peers.
MAYOR of Thurrock Cllr Yash Gupta MBE, John Kent, Leader of the Council and Carmel Littleton, Head of Learning and Universal Outcomes all had a tour of the Thurrock Adult Community College. College Principal Sharon Walsh, took the visitors on a tour of the building and met with some of the students who were in class.
MIKE Lovett, the Principal of Harris Primary Academy, Chafford Hundred has decided to retire. The school recently received a "requires improvement" Ofsted report.

NEARLY 60 construction students from South Essex College took advantage of a careers event recently, which featured guest speakers from the UK’s top construction companies. The event gave students a valuable insight about how to get into the industry and the wide range of different careers opportunities and training available after college.
