Web-cams give perfect view of South Essex College build

A PAIR of webcams have gone ‘live’ to give local residents their first views of South Essex College’s new £45 million Thurrock Campus site, which will replace the current Woodview Campus. The new Campus is set to open to students and the public in September 2014. It might not look like much at the moment but the site, which is currently being prepared for building work to start by Skanska, the main contractor constructing the new college, will soon take shape and give people a real sense of what is going to be delivered in Grays town centre.

Hassenbrook set to celebrate sixty glorious years

HASSENBROOK'S sixtieth year will be marked with an anniversary bash to take place on the evening of Saturday 6th July. The event to be held on the Academy premises in Stanford-le-Hope is open to ex-staff and ex-students providing an opportunity to catch-up with old friends, teachers and work colleagues.

Businesses flock to careers fair at Harris Academy

IT was the most successful careers fair, Harris Academy has ever had. The stalls filled the ground floor and the first floor. The stall holders included sixth form colleges, places of higher education, the army, navy and police force. Port of Tilbury, Price Waterhouse Cooper and many more.

Ormiston Park has a taste of Chinese

THERE was no food on the menu but plenty of language and culture at Anglia-Ruskin University when a group of Y9 students of Ormiston Park Academy joined other students from Essex schools for a day out. The aim of the day was to discover more of the rich tapestry that makes up Chinese culture to celebrate the start of the Year of the Snake which begins on February 10th.

Manor Primary: Governors quit en masse after council accounts probe.

MANOR primary in Tilbury was plunged into its second governor exodus in under three years as the whole body has quit following a financial investigation. The exodus follows an audit by the council in February last year. The council put a number of questions to the governors in December.

Ockendon Studio students are dressed to impress with Lakeside personal shopper

The students comments ranged from “I learnt that I should dress for the job” and “you need to think about the job your interviewing for before choosing the clothes” and that they felt “more confident of getting it right now” as well as made them think about the small details such as accessories’ and the importance of having clean shoes. They also gained a good understanding of making a good first impression.

Convent amongst schools delighted at official exam league tables

GRAYS Convent are celebrating that 63% of their pupils achieved at least 5 A*-C passes at GCSE including English and Maths. This remains well above the national average and places the Convent second in the Borough for straight GCSE results.

Bulphan pupil wins South Essex College essay competition

I still see many of my friends from school, in fact every other Saturday I go out partying with Ruby, Lucy, Ceri, Simran and Grace. I don't know what I want to be yet but my friends definitely do; Ruby and Grace are planning to be fashion designers and are going to open there own shop full of their creative designs; Lucy is hard in training as she is trying to get a gold medal in the 2024 Olympics; Simran is one of the friends I don't see much as she is often in a hot country working with her class doing archaeological digs for her studies; and Ceri is busy at the Royal Veterinary College.

Hassenbrook link up with Salvation Army to help the homeless

FOLLOWING a visit by Salvation Army representative Major Sharon King at Hassenbrook Academy in Stanford-le-hope students and staff have been collecting various items to make a donation to our local Foodbank in King St. Her visit was originally planned to give background to a novel, Stone Cold, to year 9 students who were studying the text but throughout the hour discussing the needs of the homeless the students identified this need and started a campaign in the Academy to gather food for distribution.

High praise from High Sheriff for Ockendon Studio School

THE HIGH Sheriff of Essex, Christopher Palmer-Tomkinson, received a warm welcome to The Ockendon Academy and Studio School when he joined us for a fact finding visit last Tuesday (15th January). He was suitably impressed at the turnaround of the school at the site over the last decade that has seen improvements to the building infrastructure as well as to its attendance and exam result success.*

Little Havens touched by charity work by Tudor Court

Peter Hall, Little Havens Community Fundraiser went along to the school to receive the donation at two special assemblies on Tuesday 15th January, and to thank all the children and staff in person. Peter said, “ We are so grateful to pupils, staff and parents who helped to raise such a fantastic sum for Little Havens. It was a pleasure to be able to visit the school to say thank you in person– and to share a little about what makes Little Havens such a special place and just how much their donation will help."

Contemplation space opens at St Clere’s

YOU COULD sense the sense of pride from the speeches made by St Clere's staff and guests at the Butts Lane school. The mayor of Thurrock, cllr Yash Gupta joined civic and community leaders from across the region as the school opened its first ever contemplation space.

Stanford-le-Hope primary on the way back up!

IT WAS only a couple of months ago that Ofsted delivered a stark warning to Stanford-le-Hope primary that the Copland Road institution requires improvement. Three such judgements and the school could be placed in special measures.
