THERE ARE NOT THAT many ex-students that return to their old school with their motor-racing car. But former Harris Academy student, George Blundell returned to the Mayflower Road school to ask the students to be part of a competition to design a racing helmet.

Mayor “very impressed” at Ockendon Academy achievements

THE Mayor of Thurrock, Councillor Yash Gupta MBE, visited The Ockendon Academy today to see the progress being made by the Academy and the brand new Studio School which opened September 2012. Cllr Gupta was also joined by some students from the Studio School for lunch after which he commented, “I am extremely impressed with everything the Academy has done to raise aspirations of the local community.”

Hassenbrook’s Julie nominated for an Oscar!

A FORMER student at Hassenbrook Academy has been nominated for an Oscar. Julie Dartnell has been nominated for Best Make-up for Les Miserables. It is her first nomination and is the pinnacle of a career that has spanned over twenty years and included films such as Shakespeare in Love, Iris, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as TV series such as Ashes to Ashes and French and Saunders.

Grays pupils are well red at the Arsenal language club

IT LOOKS like Grays School and Arsenal have a lot on common as they are both thinking outside the box! Miss Pellat (French Teacher) and Mr Nathan (PE Teacher) decided to work on a common project linking both their subjects together with The Arsenal Language Club.

Principal of South Essex College awarded a CBE

SPEAKING of the accolade, she said: “I feel extremely honoured but most of all I feel privileged that someone has taken the time to nominate me. It is extremely heartening to be recognised but because I love my job and enjoy it so much, I don’t often acknowledge the work that I do makes a national contribution.”

THE CHAIR of governors at Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred has told YT of the raft of measures in place in response to the recent Ofsted report. The report judged that the school "required improvement" but the chair (and local councillor) Tunde Ojetola believes that the school is well underway to achieving this.

IT WAS an all-Gable Hall final at the year-10 table tennis champs in Thurrock. They both beat William Edwards A and B teams in the semi's to make it a tense final match between Gable Hall A and Gable Hall B.

THERE WAS praise for Harris Academy (Chafford Hundred) students after they raised over £800 for Thurrock Womens Aid. The students undertook a number of fund-raising activities over November and December.

IT HAS been a busy time at the Grays School and Media Arts College and a real sense that the school is once again on the way up. It wasn't just the concerts they have put on recently but the spirit, energy and fizz in the school.

200 Not Out! St Clere’s reward perfect attendance

OVER 200 St Clere's students crammed into the hall on the last day of term to be congratulated for their 100% attendance since September. Four of the perfect 200, received a prize. The prizes were: tickets to see Essex in a T20 competition, a voucher for Nando's, a voucher for Lakeside and first prize, a brand new bike.
