Vast majority of parents get first choice primary school

CLLR Oliver Gerrish, the council’s cabinet member for children’s services including schools, said: “In recent years there have been issues around the Chafford Hundred schools, but that doesn’t seem to be so this year. “We have just five on-time applicants from the estate who will not be offered a place at one of its primary schools - this compares with over 20 at this time last year.” He added: “There are another five applicants who made applications after the deadline and they will be offered places at the nearest local school outside Chafford Hundred.”

Little Thurrock primary slammed by Ofsted

ANOTHER week, another under-performing Thurrock primary school.1. Teaching is not yet consistently good for enough pupils to make good progress across the school. In some Key Stage 1 classes, teachers do not have high enough expectations of pupils and do not build on pupils’ prior learning to challenge them sufficiently well.

Free easter egg hunt at Davy Down

DAVY Down Trust, at Stifford Pumping Station, off Pilgrims Lane, will be hosting its seventh family Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday April 14th from noon until 4.30 for 5. A spokesperson said: "We are catering for 300 children this year based on our growing popularity" said trustee Pam Thomas.

Palmer’s students display extended project work

OVER 50 Palmer’s College students showcased their final projects at their End of Year Show on Friday 22 March 2013 to students, staff and members of the public. The exhibition featured a range of work including creative artefacts such as jewellery creation and script writing, dissertations about squatters’ rights, the death penalty, social media and more.

College chief receives CBE from the Queen

Of the day Angela said Her Majesty had clearly done her homework: “The Queen asked me where I was Principal of and said it must be a very tough time in Further Education at the moment with all the funding constraints. It was a really special day and a real privilege to be awarded the CBE and have my work in education recognised.”

Mollie’s make-up designs secure her Opera prize

Woodside win primary schools football league

CHILDREN and staff at Woodside Academy are jubilant after Woodside boys’ A team were declared the overall winners of the Thurrock Primary Schools Football League following a decisive 6:3 victory against Gateway Free School in their final game of the season.

Ormiston Park’s new classroom……in India!

ORMISTON Park Academy was awarded the British Council kite mark for raising international awareness and working in partnership with other schools around the globe. They are extending the exciting work by revisiting the partner school in Bhopal India. The Purpose of the visit is to create a classroom in the School for Excellence, which is based in Bhopal, India. Collette Hunnisett visited the school last year and has planned the next trip, “We are taking six parcels with us to transform a classroom at our partner school, and the parcels consist of students work, letters and resources. Teaching is very chalk and talk and we are going out to share different styles of learning and teaching methods.”

And so it looks like the Federation are ringing the changes. First out the door are a number of governors. Chair of governors and local councillor, Tunde Ojetola announced on twitter that he was stepping down. Cllr Ojetola had stepped into the breach, three years ago after a large number of governors had quit.

Palmer’s pamper event brings cash boost for Blu

The event was dedicated to helping raise much needed funds for a local family in Grays. Their son, Blu Hill was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy months after being born and hoping to soon undergo a life changing operation but will need other special equipment and intense physiotherapy sessions to support his aftercare.

Ormiston Park Academy get their marching orders

The OPA Cadets CCF activities will take place after school. They will be provided with a uniform, parade on a weekly basis whilst receiving high quality military training in compass and map reading skills; rifle shooting and adventure training. As with the professional services OPA Cadets will have the opportunity to attend overnight 24 hour exercises and yearly central camp training in the UK.

Six-figure salary incentive as Grays school goes in search of super-head

THE POST for head-teacher at the Grays School and Media Arts College has been advertised. The proposed new sponsors of the school, the Academy Transformation Trust (ATT), has signalled their intent in changing the fortunes of the school by offering a bumper salary with the post.
