Grays School has Open House for parents

AS YOU will see, each open evening has its each unique character. This year, acting head, John Marchant warmly welcomed parents to the Open House at the school. The themes of care and pride were high on the agenda and parents were treated to some fascinating displays of work around the school.

Grays poets despair over the state of Grays high street

THEY DO SAY, write about what you know and so it seemed no surprise that many of the year nine Grays school students wrote poems that described life up on Grays high street. Their poems published in a book entitled ‘Poems from Essex’ in a series called ‘Express Yourself Through Poetry’ published by Peterborough based publishers Young Writers.

Mayor oversees school council elections at Grays Convent

Last year’s School Council were involved in the consultations regarding the school uniform and the changes to lesson times. They also raised money for our LSU partner school in Tanzania by holding a bowling event in the Gym.

Dancing in the Free School!

WE KNOW THAT THE CAR WORKERS AT Nissan are keen to start the day with a touch of Tai-Chi and down at the new Gateway Primary Free School in the Gateway Academy, the students spend the first five minutes of the day enjoying a little bit of dancing.

Ormiston Park opens its doors to the future

IT IS ALL changing at Ormiston Park Academy. The building work is moving at speed and the changes dominated the open evening. The physical changes were evident and the plans played as principal of the academy, Tess Walker welcomed parents to the night and welcomed them to the future.

Parents flock to William Edwards Open Evening

ONCE AGAIN, the car park was over-flowing as parents and prospective students came to William Edwards school and sports college at their open evening on Thursday night. The hall was packed to the rafters as headteacher Steve Munday welcomed the parents and prospective pupils to the school.

Ormiston and South Essex join forces for sixth form partnership

Vice Principal Nathan Hunnisett said: “Students sometimes find it difficult to make a sudden move from school into a new college. This gives them the opportunity of maintaining a presence in very familiar surroundings, yet at the same time developing confidence in a new college environment where they can work up to degree level.”

Parents pour in to see Gateway Primary Free School

The Gateway Primary Free School is a state-funded primary school for 4–11 year olds. It is sponsored by the Ormiston Trust and part of the wider Gateway Learning Community, as such it will benefit from a wide range of resources and expertise to ensure that standards of learning and behaviour are high and that there is a wide breadth of opportunity for all pupils.

Harris Academy students: Now and Then

IN MANY WAYS, we see YT as a living, breathing history project chronicling the history of the borough at this fascinating juncture. In many ways we are much more influenced by the Mass Observation Index than anything else. Or perhaps programmes like Michael Apted's 7-Up project.

Harris Primary welcomes new classrooms

THURROCK Council’s education portfolio holder, Cllr Oliver Gerrish, has welcomed the official opening of a new class block at Harris Academy (Chafford Hundred). The new classes, allowing for an extra 30 places a year, were funded by a Basic Needs Safety Valves grant arranged by Thurrock Council.

Purfleet primary on the right track

Standards amongst the higher levels reached by Year 6 have risen by 15 per cent, and the average level achieved has also increased by 15 per cent. Pockets of satisfactory and good progress across the rest of the school in writing, spelling and handwriting, are ensuring that standards and achievement in English are moving in the right direction.

Open Evening at William Edwards: Thursday September 20th

Headteacher, Steve Munday's keynote speech will be around 7pm and tours will start around 7.30pm. Open Evening at William Edwards is always a fascinating exhibition of excellence and unsurprisingly, there is a huge amount of energy and enthusiasm.

Paralympic gold medallist spends time with Beacon Hill students

All the students were extremely excited about their visits and have come back wanting to explore further opportunities for participation in disability sport both within school and with outside organisations. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success and skill of people who have disabilities

Gateway Academy Open Evening: Tuesday September 18th

THE GATEWAY Academy will be opening its doors on Tuesday for its annual open evening. The success of the academy, which is now part of the Gateway Learning Community, has been a remarkable story.

Convent raise thousands for overseas development

PUPILS at Grays Convent School raised £1437.71 for the Catholic Agency of Overseas Development (CAFOD) which will contribute to providing boreholes for clean drinking water for people living in remote parts of the world.
