Jacqueline is new to Carolyne House in Chadwell St Mary but is clearly relishing the opportunities it brings to run her home. Leatherland's Kim Currie acknowledges and is proud of the reputation that Leatherland has as a key part of the South Ockendon community. Indeed many of their activities are at the heart of the community. Kim stresses that many of the residents are from South Ockendon and it is vital that they do feel they are still a key part of the community.

Aveley man fined in case of 92-year-old duped by rogue builders

The alleged rogue builders have so far eluded justice but Shaun Wilton, 41, of Aveley, South Ockendon, Essex, admitted laundering the money through his bank account.

Fire Brigade strike could see Thurrock exposed on Bonfire night

Following an eight-hour stoppage on Saturday and plans for another eight-hour strike next Monday, November 1, he added that thousands firefighters will walk out from 10am on November 5 to 9am on November 7, covering one of the fire service's busiest periods.

Celebration for U-Project

COUNCILLOR Charlie Curtis joined staff and parents at the Culver Centre to welcome the students home from the U-Project. Once again it was down to the hard working Tom Flynn and his staff that the project was a success as well as the students who were taken out of their comfort zone as they spent a week on outdoor bounds in Wales.

Man charged over GBH in Corringham

A 41-year-old man from Corringham has been charged with gbh following an assault in Langland Close, Corringham on May 19. A 25-year-old local man received a head injury following an altercation in the street.

Lakeside half term Halloween fun

The food court will also host a “guess the weight of the pumpkin” competition which will see five children receive some great prizes from a selection of the centre’s retailers, including a mountain bike and MP3 player. There will also be plenty of other spooky surprises courtesy of activities on a Halloween-themed stage.

New bridge could cut through Chadwell and Orsett

A proposed new bridge across the River Thames should be built to the east of Gravesend and link up with Chadwell St Mary reports the BBC. Consultants commissioned by Kent County Council (KCC) said the new £1bn Thames crossing should carry traffic direct to the M11 in Essex rather than the M25. The previous three options included one that cut through Chadwell St Mary and Orsett at Prince Charles Avenue.

Thurrock MP questions financial management at council

"Responsibility for raising financial standards at Thurrock rests with the local authority and its electorate, who will be assisted by the steps that the Government are taking to increase the transparency of local authorities' financial transactions.

MP asks minister to back business

He said: "I thank my right hon. Friend the Minister for his answer. Following his earlier comments, I seek assurance that small and medium-sized enterprises in my constituency can access Government contracts. Can he give me any examples of practical help now or in future that would make that easier to achieve?

Rugby: Thurrock 38 v 3 Brentwood

Thurrock bounced back to form with this emphatic derby victory at Oakfield on Saturday. Buoyed by their gritty win the week before against Tabard, Thurrock looked much sharper and much more confident than they have done in recent weeks. Thurrock had the better of the opening exchanges and was rewarded when a poor clearance kick was run back by Darryl Worster and a perfectly timed pass to Sam Porter gave the space to jink round and score close to the posts.

Mayor opens major Korean artists’ exhibition

THURROCK Mayor Ann Cheale opened a major exhibition of renowned Korean artist's Ko Hyun Hie's work at the Thameside Theatre. Ko's work has an international reputation and fellow artists, residents joined the Mayor at the opening of the three day exhibition.

Olympics 2012: “You’ve got to be in it to win it”

Cllr Worrall said: "One of my greatest concerns since taking this portfolio on in May has been that the Olympics will pass this borough by. "These fears were compounded when I attended an Olympics meeting at Essex County Council. It was the first time anyone from Thurrock had attended in two years."

Councillors call for borough wide booze ban

Councillor for East Tilbury, John Purkiss called for the ban to stretch further than Ockendon. He said: "This is something that should stretch throughout the borough. There is no reason for people to wander around with cans of booze."

Panto cast at Lakeside
