Meeting set for prospective council candidates

ON Thursday, 22 May, there will be elections across Thurrock this year, in all but four wards local council seats will be contested as well as the European Union ballot. Voters in Chafford and North Stifford, Corringham and Fobbing, East Tilbury, and Stanford-le-Hope West will only be able to vote in the European election.

Man questioned after threats to garage staff in Grays

POLICE in Grays would like to speak to any witnesses to an incident in a Grays petrol station where a man is alleged to have verbally threatened a member of staff. It happened at the Murco station in the Broadway at just before 5.30pm on Wednesday, January 22.

Stride On with The Gang Show in 2014

STRIDE ON 2014 is coming to the Thameside Theatre, Grays from 5-8 March 2014 and promises to be another great show. Scouts and Guides from across Thurrock have been rehearsing every Sunday since the beginning of October to put together their traditional annual “Stride On” Gang Show, which they first staged in 1968. Police appeal after waste dumped in West Thurrock

POLICE are appealing for information after a large amount of waste was dumped in West Thurrock. A load of rubbish, estimated to cost around £1,000 to remove and dispose of, was dumped in Barclay Way between December 21, 2013 and January 6, 2014.

Update: Five arrested after mass brawl outside Palmer’s College

DETECTIVES have appealed for information following a violent altercation between two groups of youths outside a college in Grays. Officers were called to Palmers College in Chadwell Road at about 2.15pm on Tuesday February 4 after a report of between 20 and 30 youths gathered outside the main gates.

POLICE are continuing to step up patrols near Palmer's College after a report of gangs of armed youths outside the college yesterday afternoon (Feb 4th). The patrols have come after police were called to the college on Chadwell Road at just after 2pm after receiving calls that a group of youngsters, some reported to have weapons, were standing outside the college.

POLICE want to identify a man and a woman who were caught on CCTV at the time that a theft took place at Currys electrical store at the Lakeside Shopping Centre near Grays. Two suspects had entered the shop at 1.30pm on Saturday January 25.

Rush hour headache as lorry catches fire on A13

FIRE CREWS were called to a lorry on fire on the A13, Dock Approach Road at the Stifford interchange. Crews tackled the fire wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reel jets. Crews reported that the lorry contains rubber and plastics. Crews extinguished the fire by 07:03hrs.

Search for yob after female bus passenger hurt

A WOMAN was left with facial injuries after an object was thrown through the window of a bus in Grays. The bus was in Brentwood Road at about 7.40pm on Wednesday, January 22, when it passed a group of youths.
