SAINSBURY'S colleagues and managers at Chafford Hundred store took part in a dress down weekend, wearing red white and blue for the Jubilee.

Justice for SAS war hero George as family receive compensation for dagger

THE FAMILY OF SAS war hero, the late George Denny has received compensation for the ceremonial dagger that was stolen from Purfleet Heritage Museum in August last year. After a ten month battle it seems that George's family has won the war.

Book of Greetings to be opened to send wishes to Queen

A number of key churches across the Diocese have been chosen to be ‘Diocesan Jubilee Centres’, these include for Thurrock the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul in Grays High Street. Grays Parish Church will be open for all four days of the long Jubilee weekend from 10am until 4pm for people to come along and write a greeting which will be included in the final bound book which will be presented to the Queen later this year.

Cemetery land consecrated

The consecration service began with Mr Starr and the Rev Barlow reading the Petition for Consecration, to the bishop, before he and the “people assembled” walk to each corner of the field where the bishop marks the ground with his pastoral staff.

Over the last few years, Ken would come to the Grays Athletic games with his grandson, Lewis. He absolutely adored football made Lewis and encouraged him to play and learn about the game.

Amazing Grace plaque unveiled in Purfleet

Recently, Jonathan invited the mayor of Thurrock, cllr Charlie Curtis to Purfleet to unveil a plaque that commemorates the fact that Rev John Newton composed Amazing Grace whilst living in Purfleet-on-Thames.

Veterans charter launched

The charter was developed following a motion at the full council meeting in March last year. An overview and scrutiny task and finish group was established chaired by Cllr Danny Nicklen supported by Cllr John Purkiss and Cllr Yash Gupta.

Falklands war hero found dead in Grays flat

A FALKLANDS WAR hero, who survived the deadly attack on the Sir Galalahad in 1982, has been found dead in his flat in Grays. Emergency services were called to the home of John Jenkins in Russett House on Falcon Avenue in Grays on Thursday February 23rd where Mr Jenkins was found.

From Grays to Seinfield: Tribute to Ian Abercrombie

We had recognised, Chadwell-born Ian Abercrombie as Elaine's boss on Seinfeld but did not realise that he hailed from Thurrock. Ian was known for playing Alfred Pennyworth in Birds of Prey. He appeared as Elaine Benes' boss, Justin Pitt during the sixth season of Seinfeld, and later as a butler on Desperate Housewives.
