The Aveley Youth Falcons under-9's have won the Mercury Division of the Thundermite league for the 2011/2012 season. They won with two games in hand after a very successful season.
Tilbury did not give up scoring the important equaliser and Matthews headed just over from a Webb cross. Tilbury were rewarded with only 2 minutes remaining when a ball was played into the box and Tom Webb stabbed home to the delight of the home supporters. In a tense finish, both sides had half chances to take the maximum points and Tilbury were delighted to hear the final whistle.
The opening goal came in the fourth minute out of nothing and left Rocks keeper Jamie Riley red-faced. The ball was played back to him by Matt Hall and he attempted to control it but it bobbled over his foot and rolled embarrassingly into the net.
GRAYS ATHLETIC fans were celebrating qualifying for the Ryman Div One North play offs after beating Waltham Abbey 1-0 at Cappershotts.
Grays started brightly with heat interlinking play. Kenny Beaney was working box to box. Jaoa Carlos looked sprightly as well. In the 7th minute he skipped a tackle and the Abbey player was lucky to not receive a caution.
In the end East Thurrock’s first half endeavours saw them through to a rare league double over their derby rivals but it was a bizarre and fraught victory for their fans – who are growing accustomed to seeing their side throw away commanding leads.
How influential that decision was is left to conjecture, but Collis is the engine room of Blues’ success and the experienced head that has guided them through many a potential crisis.
The result leaves Tilbury needing a single point in their final 2 games to confirm a playoff berth. The play off fixtures will not be known until the final Saturday of the season due to the closeness of the sides.
In fairness to already relegated Aveley, their first half performance was creditable and they even took the lead, but in the second half it was one-way traffic and Rocks reserve keeper Jamie Riley, who came on to replace the injured Richard Wray just before the break, had absolutely nothing to do.
In the final seconds and for the second game in a row, Tilbury scored deep into injury time and it had some controversy, when a ball was hit forward and picked up by Jack West who ran to the byline and crossed left footed and the ball fell to Emiel Aiken who bundled the ball home with a suspicion of handball. The home side expressed there unhappiness and this lead to Nick Skelton being sent off for over remonstrating with the referee.
They were late but they are still great as the Dockers go into fourth place with a great win against Wakering. Harrison, Higgins, Ruel and Wood put the Rocks into thirteenth in the league.
The result has seen Grays pick up only two points from six over the Easter break. They drop to fifth and now need to ensure they do not drop anymore points against Brentwood, Waltham Abbey and Enfield in their last three games.
Leiston's Michael Brothers had equalised after Alex Read had put the Dockers up after 27 minutes. Jack West made it 2-1 with ten minutes left and the Read out away his 23rd in the league in stoppage time.
