Sad day as Thurrock and Aveley relegated to Ryman premier and Ryman Div One North repsectively. Great day for Tilbury as they thump leaders Leiston 3-1.
The first corner for Grays Ath came in the 13th minute. Jake Hall pumped it over and Bradley Thomas' header just flew over. Hall has been a great signing for Grays and relishes the responsibility.
Boreham Wood started the brighter and looked dangerous in the first forty five minutes and on 17 minutes should have taken the lead when David Hutton was put through with the keeper advancing his lop shot was too high and sailed over the bar.
Rocks themselves are not completely out of the woods in that regard and manager John Coventry will hope his side have enough in the bank as they will struggle to pick up many more points if this is the level of performance they will sustain to the end of the season reports the Thurrock Enquirer.
DOCKERS BOSS, Paul Vaughan must be a very proud man. Ever since August, when the Dockers fleetingly topped the league, nearly every person said: "It will never last." But week in and week out this season, they have proved us wrong with a great team ethic and outstanding displays.
A Lee Boylan goal was all that Thurrock had to show for themselves as they were demolished by The Cards. Goals from Alan Inns, Giuseppe Sole (2), Jack King and Kevin Betsy saw the impressive league leaders stretch their lead whilst Thurrock look like they will be relegated on Good Friday.
With just five games remaining, Blues have hit top form at just the right moment. During January and February 2005 the club had seven successive league wins, so Hakan Hayrettin’s team will be looking to equal that record next Saturday as they host Chatham Town at Rookery Hill.
But Mr Swallow has a track record,, over many years, of dozens of successful ventures and just like two of the stars who appeared at the academy in Loughton, Mike Tyson and Jake La Motta, you take a few on the chin in order to win the fight!
A LATE PENALTY by former Grays Ath star Ben Watson’s late penalty sealed another defeat for Thurrock at Eastbourne Borough. Before that, Borough Skipper Ollie Rowe opened the scoring when he headed home Matt Crabb’s 19th minute corner.
This is a great achievement as the team struggled at the beginning of the season, gaining only one point from the first two games. The team then put in some hard work in training and went on a super run winning 13 out of the next 14 games to comfortably win the title, with two games still to play.
Rocks found themselves on the backfoot in the early stages and Mike Ramkin, returning to the side after several months on the sidelines because of a knee injury that required an operation, was a shade lucky to escape a caution for a succession of fouls as he chased and hounded the Stones midfielders with a huge appetite for work.
The Millers took an early lead in the 13th minute when Daniel Francis was able to use his strength to spin Harrow’s Rickelle Christian, after the defender had got too tight, and the Aveley No11 slotted home calmly with his left foot past the despairing dive of Borough keeper, Jack Bonham.
After the game, Captain Gary Henty commented "I thought we were unlucky in the 2nd half., We put Sudbury under a lot of pressure in the second period and we had 2 good efforts cleared off the line. Spirit is good within the squad and we look forward to redeeming ourselves next week at Heybridge Swifts".
Vital win for Grays Ath. Great win for the Millermen as they dig deep to get the three points. Fortress Chadfields breached just at the wrong time as an impressive Sudbury gain vital points.
