Khai’s jumping to new heights

Khai from William Edwards School, had already had a good series of events in the Intermediate Boys Octathlon, but the 1.88m high jump was several centimetres better than other competitors, scoring him massive points. Khai, better known for his UK Ranked performances in the 100m Hurdles and Shot Putt, has added an extra event to his repertoire. Khai’s dreaded event, the 1500m, will need some work before the final in Exeter in September.

MIDFIELDER Steve Harrison, who announced his retirement from the non-League scene in the closing months of the last campaign after helping East Thurrock United to the Ryman One North title is planning to lace up his boots in the division again in the new season, having signed for Tilbury.

EAST THURROCK striker Kris Newby has changed his mind and will not be joining Canvey, despite the islanders' recent announcement. Newby has instead decided to join Thurrock after they were handed a Conference South relegation reprieve at the weekend.

Thurrock exodus continues as two more of Hak’s old boys sign for Grays

Defender, Craig Pope came through Barnet’s youth ranks eventually making a total of 31 appearances, scoring once in the Conference National over three years with the club. He left Underhill in 2003 subsequently joining Southern Premier League club Cambridge City, helping the club reach the Conference South. After four years at the club, he moved to City’s neighbours Histon ready for their first season in the Conference National. Craig made 69 appearances for the Stutes before signing for Thurrock in December 2009.

The prolific goal scorer played in the last five league matches for Thurrock last season scoring a total of five goals, three on his debut against Weston- S-Mare. Lee has played a lot of non league football in and around this part of the country after starting his career as a youngster at West Ham United in 1996.

4 v 4 footie gives girls a chance to shine

Nearly 100 girls also took part in Essex County FA’s recent festival at Thurrock YFC for Under 8s to 10s. These events are popular as they give girls the chance to play in an organised festival environment against other similar teams and the players are under no pressure to play for points or a trophy as everyone comes away with a medal and a certificate.

New manager Hakan Hayrettin has had a busy first week in charge of the Blues, and he has wasted little time in starting to shape next season's squad. Deals have been agreed with two players who last season were playing at a higher level, which shows the ambition of the new management team.

IF GOALS were the problem for Grays Athletic last season then they have certainly shown their intent in solving the problem by their signings this morning. Last season, Kris Newby was on fire for East Thurrock banging in 27 goals from all over the park but instead of joining the Rocks in the Ryman Premier he has joined forces with Grays Athletic.

Covo has Rocks new season already in his sights

THE close season may only just have started but East Thurrock United' promotion and award-winning boss John Coventry has been busy assembling a squad for his side's forthcoming Ryman Premier challenge. Coventry, who guided Rocks to the Division One North championship and was acclaimed manager of the year will go into the new season without a couple of familiar faces, but has already clinched the keynote signing of midfielder Greg Cohen.

Hakan is new Grays Ath boss

FORMER THURROCK BOSS, Hakan Heyrettin was unveiled last night as the new boss of Grays Athletic. The enigmatic and emotional former Wycombe player will once again team up with assistant Hassan Oktay.
