On Wednesday morning, we met Romford man, John Rayment down at the Tilbury ferry. John was being seen off by friends and family as he sets out to walk around the coast of Britain.

Sheria Smith, aged 10, organised the fundraiser at Stiffords Clays Primary School in memory of her friend, Bridie Philpott. Staff and pupils helped to raise £400 by selling cakes, cards and taking part in a non-uniform day.
Last year's tea proved really poignant. Diana and fellow trustees really thought it would be her last because she was diagnosed with cancer in the bones in her hips,pelvis and spine in April 2011. Thanks to the NHS, Macmillan Nurses, St Luke's Hospice and a good dose of luck she is still here but accepting any help she can get and to her delight the trustees have promised to make this an annual event .
Gable Hall presented a bid for a set of heart rate monitors and analysis software to be used in GCSE PE and with our extra-curricular teams. Pupils, staff, parents and the public then voted online to decide upon the winner.

THE DEDICATED MEN and women of the White Hart pub in Argent Street, Grays went on a mighty pub crawl last week and all in a great cause: St Luke's hospice.
Shoppers are being encouraged to dig out their unwanted clothes, toys, books, DVD’s and other saleable items and bring them along to the special “donation station” that will be set up on the day. Collected items will then be sold through the Little Havens charity shops to raise vital funds for the hospice.
This latest collection leads Thurrock foodbank closer to their target of launching distribution centres across Thurrock in mid-July so that people in crisis can be given food and no one needs to go hungry in the borough.
This morning (Friday) war veteran Luke Seeley set off from Shoebury seafront. Luke, who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan for the Coldstream Guards is undertaking a three day walk. He aims to stop at the Kari May bench up on One Tree Hill today. Walk to Romford via Lakeside on Saturday and then head to Buckingham Palace on Sunday.
BATIAS will be asking people to take a 5p collection box home with them to put their loose change into, particularly 5p’s as research has shown that 5p’s are the most disliked coin in circulation, because of their small size.
On Monday 28th May, members from the newly formed Rotary Group of Thurrock Gateway, cast their “Provisional” status aside and officially became Rotarians during their Inauguration Ceremony at the Park Inn Hotel in Thurrock.
