Pamper Day on Mothers Day in Chafford Hundred

It is an opportunity to try out beauty treatments and holistic therapies. There is also a perfect opportunity to buy a wonderful gift for your Mother. All businesses at the event are local businesses and it is an ideal event to support the community.

Disability transport conference at the Beehive

Hosted by Thurrock Disability Network and staffed by pupils from Beacon Hill School, the exhibition was an opportunity for disabled people to talk face to face both to council officers and local taxi and bus providers about their concerns. Trans-Vol, Thurrock’s community transport project, was well represented and Dave Meheghan, the manager, proudly displayed the latest addition to their fleet of vehicles. Wheelchair users also tried out a rear loading private hire car which took them for a spin.

Special show as part of campaign for brave Oliver

Oliver Holmes is seven years old and has cerebral palsy. He is a bright, determined little boy but he physically struggles to keep up with his peers because of the stiffness in his right side caused by the illness. Oliver has been accepted to have a life changing operation called "Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy" which would remove the stiffness and allow him to participate fully in activities.

St Luke’s Midnight Walk raises thousands

Even after the laps of the centre (which were surprisingly speedy in their heels!) participants could relax with pizza from Pizza Express and more live music from Michael Buble Tribute Act – Kriz K, and foot massages courtesy of The Holistic Treatment & The Little Retreat, with the ladies finally comfortable that they had raised lots of money to support all the hard work undertaken by the hospice.

Two Thurrock projects benefit from carers fund

Two projects in the south west Esesx area will receive funding: Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC and St Luke's Hospice, Basildon. A spokesperson for Thurrock Lifestyles said: "We are delighted to have been given this opportunity to support local carers of disabled children in planning the tricky future path between leaving special school and entering the adult world”

Marathon fundraiser will be Phab for kids!

Students and staff at Hassenbrook School in Stanford-le-Hope will be supporting Mr Anthony Hattam, Leader of Learning in Humanities at the school, raise funds for the ‘Phab kids’ charity.  Mr Hattam has signed up for the Virgin London Marathon in a bid to raise a figure of at least £1500.

Jobs losses at homeless charity as they lose contract to Family Mosaic

STAFF at Open Door, a Thurrock-based charity that has helped the vulnerable in the borough for nearly forty years, were made redundant this week as the reality of the savage cuts starts to hit home. Sources close to the charity believe that the "tipping-point" for the charity was the loss of the contracts to provide floating support for both under-18's and over-18's.

Mosaic: In concert on behalf of St Luke’s hospice

A FORTY STRONG choir will be performing at the Stifford Clays social club in Crammavill Street, Stifford Clays next week. Mosaic will be painting pictures with their words on behalf of St Luke's Hospice.

Head of Music at Hassenbrook School Miss Furniss said: ‘We have continued to support the MS charity over the years since an ex-pupil's family were affected by the condition. It is the most common disabling neurological disease affecting young adults and we feel it is a worthwhile charity for a secondary school to support.
