Teams of four took to the College’s playing field for the tug of war tournament, but our student teams proved no match for the might of a very competitive quartet of Palmer’s sport staff who went undefeated. The event raised over £80 for the charity which cares for children and their families across Essex and London.
IT sometimes feels that we forget about a disaster a few weeks after the tragedy occurred. So it was heartening to see that the good people at the Sikh Temple in Grays had raised over £2,000 for the Tsunami Aid. They invited the Red Cross, Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle Price and Deputy Mayor, Tunde Ojetola to Sundays ceremony.
A Thurrock Council employee will be joining thousands of women on Saturday (14 May), walking around London, raising funds for breast cancer and wearing a decorated bra! Carol Cole of the council’s Children, Education and Families directorate will be taking part in the Playtex Moonwalk, an event which raises money and awareness for breast cancer research and cancer care.
Manager, Lavena Kenyon, explained that her team is passionate about supporting the hospice, as many of them have cared for people, who have benefited from its services. She said: “We really do care about the people we look after, so we wanted to give something back to the hospice, which does such amazing work with them.
In exchange for the delivery of HIS designer clothing Thurrock’s Trading Standards team filled the His Church 7.5 tonne truck with recently seized goods which will go through the charity makeover and find their way into grateful hands.
NOT MANY people will produce their own pop video for Red Nose Day but the team at Fords in Dunton have really gone the extra kilometre when it comes to doing something funny for money.
THERE WAS a host of activities at Ormiston Park Academy on Red Nose Day 2011 including some fantastic singing down at the drama department. Glee is so popular that many many students were happy to get up on stage and perform.
Each student had made a contribution to the great cause. We are not entirely sure as to what they were eating but it did include maggots! You just have to have a look on the teachers' faces as they eat something that just doesn't look good.
YT dropped in on Sainsburys where staff and customers were wi'ing for money and getting up to all sorts of things which were funny for money. Shoppers were greeted by Princess Leia and Fred Flinstone as they went in while the team from Partyman were doing what they do best.
GETTING out into the community was the key message for the Gateway Academy on Red Nose Day 2011. First lesson was a walk around Chadwell which involves quite a hill up to the Cross Keys roundabout.
Staff at the hotel have organised a box of silly props including wigs, noses, tutu’s & glasses & encouraging guests, clients & staff to look at silly as possible and strike a pose on our special “red nose carpet”.
LAKESIDE undertook another of its 21 good deeds this week and showed its support for local seafarers by heading down to the docks for a day and building a new security shed donated by the shopping centre. The shed will form part of The Tilbury Seafarers Centre which provides a quiet haven away from the noise and bustle of normal shipboard life.
Oliver Holmes is seven years old and has cerebral palsy. He is a bright, determined little boy but he physically struggles to keep up with his peers because of the stiffness in his right side caused by the illness.
THE THURROCK RE-USERS Project (TRUP) are hosting a tea party next week in aid of the Helen Rollason cancer charity. The party will take place at their HQ in the Bata Estate in East Tilbury on Wednesday 15th March from 10am to 3pm.
