Several arrests after police continue crackdown in Thurrock

SEVEN people were arrested when police stopped and checked 35 vehicles as part of an operation to rid the county’s roads of dangerous and poorly-driven commercial vehicles. The checks, carried out under Operation Mermaid, the nationwide campaign to improve road safety, were held on Thursday December 5 at Moto services off the M25 at Thurrock.

Morning rush hour drink-driving check lands man with court appearance

A MAN who was arrested by a police motorcyclist in St Chads Road, Tilbury at 8.30am on December 1 will be facing a court appearance later this month on suspicion of drink-driving. The 28 year old man from the Stanford le Hope area was on his way to work when he was stopped. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. He was tested at the police station and blew 57 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35mg. He will be appearing at Magistrates court in Basildon on December 20.

Jewellery theft following Corringham burglary

DETECTIVES are appealing for information following a burglary in south-west Essex. The break-in happened in Corringham when thieves smashed their way through the rear door of a house on Digby Road between Saturday, November 24th and Monday, November 26th and stole jewellery worth a four-figure sum.

Music seized, man fined as council get tough on noise abatement

BRETT Stone, of Grass Croft, Dell Road, Grays has been ordered to pay fines and costs of £615 after admitting three charges relating to noise nuisance. On Monday (November 26th) Basildon Magistrates Court heard that a Noise Abatement Notice had been served on the 25-year- old in April 2012 after he continued to disturb neighbours with loud music.

Search for man after indecent exposure in Grays

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a man indecently exposed himself at a street in Grays. The incident happened in Rectory Road at the junction with Overcliff Road, at about 1.45am on Saturday November 24.

Police find illegal immigrants in a fridge and man deported after manslaughter rap during operation

Seven illegal immigrants were arrested after being found in a refrigerated HGV. The truck’s two drivers, both from Poland, were arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry, but were later released without charge. Three illegal immigrants were also arrested after being found during a routine check on a car near Lakeside.

CCTV images released of armed robbery at Corringham petrol station

DETECTIVES have released three CCTV images in a fresh appeal for information about two middle-aged men involved in an armed robbery at Corringham. Video footage captured during the robbery at the Total service station in Church Road, on Thursday, November 15 shows that both men had grey hair and were aged in their 50s.

Ockendon man fined after children hurt on inflatable slides

AN OCKENDON boss of an inflatables firm has pleaded guilty to failing to secure a blow up slide that injured three children at show in Kent. Jay Crick, 34, of Russells Way, South Ockendon, pleaded guilty at Sevenoaks magistrates to two offences in relation to health and safety after the slide blew over at Tonbridge Garden Show on May 25, 2011.

Heavy fine for overweight lorry

Basildon Magistrates Court heard the lorry owned by Kent based freight company Alberti and Santi UK Ltd, was stopped as part of weight checks being carried out in April this year by Thurrock Trading Standards. The vehicle was found to be 2,450kg over its permitted weight.

Five arrests over Ockendon cement mixer death in 2002.

FIVE PEOPLE have been arrested in connection with the death of Lee Balkwell ten years ago. Lee, 33, was found dead at the farm in South Ockendon on July 18th 2002. His head and shoulders were lodged in a cement mixer.
