VOLUNTEERS are needed to help protect the rights of vulnerable people and minority groups in Thurrock. Police are appealing for residents to come forward and help support the Thurrock Independent Advisory Group.

Suicidal teen on train-line in East Tilbury

THURROCK train lines were thrown into chaos on Saturday after a stand-off between a teenager on the lines and the emergency services. The ambulance service was alerted at 7.18am to a man reported to be near the rail way line near Princess Margaret Road, Tilbury.

Ockendon Fairground Owner Fined After Pair Thrown From Ride

Michael Searle, from South Ockendon, who owned the ride, pleaded guilty to breaching section 3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. He was fined £3,000 and was also ordered to pay £1,000 in costs at Aylesbury Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 30 September 2010).

Traffic collisions in Thurrock continue

Thursday morning saw traffic congestion on the A13 and M25 throughout the rush hour while a collision on the Stifford intersection saw traffic going into Grays affected as well.

Robbery in Lodge Lane

A woman answered the door to a man at about 8.30pm who threatened her and demanded she hand over any cash or jewellery she had in the house. Jewellery was handed over to the man described as white, wearing a dark blue hoodie and white T-shirt.

Robbery in South Ockendon

Investigating officer, Dc Steve Bailey, said: “The man was working as a delivery driver, and it is unacceptable that he had to endure this whilst trying to make a living. He was slightly injured, but it clearly could’ve been a lot worse. I would appeal to the conscience of anyone that knows who did this or saw the attack to come forward and help us with our investigation.”

Two In Court After Woman Stabbed

Police were called to Celandine Close at about 11.40pm on Sunday, September 19, after a woman was stabbed several times. She was taken to hospital and had emergency surgery.

Crackdown on Lorry Drivers Continues

On Thursday 47 vehicles were checked and 12 mechanical defects were found with eight leading to prohibitions. A total of 140 driver’s hours infringements were found and £1,580 was collected in fines and deposits.

Man Charged Over Exposure

A 29-year-old man from Grays, arrested for sexually exposing himself in an alley on Roseberry Road, Grays on Tuesday, August 3, was today charged with exposure. He has been bailed to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court on September, 30.
