The Secretary of State has reviewed the total surplus balance of £2,037,083.94 and today notified the Academy that, following his determination of the balance, £533,465.08 should be retained by Thurrock Council and £1,503,618.86 should be paid to The Ockendon Academy.
THIS autumn, the Thameside Theatre, Civic Halls and the Royal Opera House Production Workshop in Purfleet will be joining 30 other venues across England in opening their doors to almost 3,000 13-16 year-olds – as part of the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural’s ‘Offstage Choices’ programme.
GABLE HALL is our ninth and final open evening of the season. The reason we have divided it into two pieces is that many of the school's presentations were visual and vocal. As would befit a performing arts college!
ONE OF THE many compliments that people pay about St Clere's is the feeling of family and unity at the school. Indeed one prospective parent on the Open Evening circuit was impressed with the pride and apssion that staff and pupils felt for the school.
As you will see, the name of the school has changed as it joins the long list of schools that have become academies.
The school puts a great deal of energy into the open evenings. Just look at the Humanities dept. where the teachers dressed up as Jules Verne, Catherine of Aragon and Emily Pankhurst.
LAST WEEK, members of a Kenyan Masai Tribe visited the Copland Road school as part of a ten week tour of the UK. The Key Stage 2 pupils and staff were all enthralled by the costumes, singing, dancing and jumping of these special visitors and all attendees also got to join in with some of the singing and jumping too.
Head teacher Mrs L Catton said “We could not have achieved this without the support of parents, staff, pupils and the gardening club. A special thanks to ‘Jim’ the grandparent of Jimmy & Albert Taylor, who has inspired and helped pupils with our allotment”.
A RAFT of school and college building proposals despite the harsh economic conditions were proposed by Thurrock Council's ruling Labour cabinet last night.
The proposals include: the development of a £1.5 million special needs base in Ormiston Park Academy; the development of further building at Tudor Court primary in Chafford Hundred and the development of buildings at Gable Hall in Corringham to meet the demand for planned motor vehicle and construction programmes.
A Free School is a much more radical and liquid way of teaching but the bottom line is that primary pupils will have access to the expertise and skills of the secondary staff. This is expected to gain most benefit in the area of literacy and numeracy and should see a narrowing of the gap between primary and secondary.
NOW, you may well wonder why we give this part of the Gable Hall Open Evening its own slot. Well, it is the fourth time we have filmed this highly energetic example of dynamic teaching at the school and of course, when we filmed it in 2008, Diversity's Perri Kiely was in the back of the class and we ended up being interviewed about it on Fuji TV in Japan.
THE WORK THAT Ormiston Park Academy (OPA) has already undertaken with pupils with special needs is remarkable. Anyone who has visited the Ascend base and spoken to the team headed by Nathan Hunnisett will be overawed by their vision and purpose.
She added “I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome to the school, and as a whole team we are looking forward to an exciting future for Benyon. Our children are ‘truly leading by example’ and we are really proud of them”.
THERE IS something special about seeing art in a unique environment or indeed in the environment it is referencing. The work of art students at South Essex College is on display at the moment at the hide in the Rainham marshes RSPB centre.
THE LAST OF the senior school open evenings takes place today and tomorrow at Gable Hall school on Southend Road, Corringham. Monday's evening is for parents in catchment and Tuesdays' for out of catchment.
