Mrs Michelle Sparks, Teacher of Science at Hassenbrook School said, ‘The engineers made the day interesting, fun and very informative. The students returned to Hassenbrook, dirty, exhausted but thrilled with their achievements. This is a new partnership we have forged with Laing O’Rourke and we eagerly anticipate working on the next project planned to enhance our students learning. As a Technology College the input a multi-national company can offer our school is of huge benefit to the students and we are grateful for the time and effort they have put in to making this day a success.’
Of a sort because over 300 pupils ,staff and anyone else they could drag in to the main hall performed the well trusted and familiar moves to The Black Lace Song "Superman"
THE STAFF laid down the business challenges to the students at Grays School and Media Arts College. Some were asked to launch a music business and produce a new star. One of the key learning outcomes was to replicate the work place atmosphere with all the demands, disciplines and pressures therein.
Certificates for a variety of subjects and achievements were awarded to all nominees and prize winners received certificates and trophies or WH Smith gift vouchers.
Palmer’s students had a taste of life as a professional photographer with a print sale of their work at the Horndon Feast and Fayre over the weekend. The work for sale – including framed prints and postcards - was produced by A-level Photography students and staff.
The event at Thurrock Civic Hall was hosted by Thurrock Police Schools’ Liaison Officer Neil Brand. Sponsors included the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership; Chair Superintendent Ivor Harvey handed out the prizes of Lakeside vouchers. Superintendent Harvey said: “As a partnership we are proud to be associated with such a lively and enjoyable evening which offered the opportunity to share valuable information with young people and help keep them safe.”
“Lansdowne sometimes takes a bit of a hit from the media, but it is wrong to tar all the pupils and the school as a whole with the same brush. “I handed out prizes for sporting achievements at the District Games, for merits won by pupils showing enthusiasm in learning at school and for excellent attendance records. Well done to each and every one of them.”
At Quarry Hill Primary, the answer is that it all helps nurture a culture of aspiration and motivation. Anyone who steps into the school can only be impressed by the can-do culture that pervades the school. NEARLY 160 students were shortlisted from over 8,000 from across all three campuses of South Essex College of Further and Higher Education in Southend, Basildon and Thurrock in an evening celebrating outstanding students. The deserving students come from a whole range of courses, including BTEC National Diplomas, A-Levels and Access to Higher Education programmes to name but a few.

Thurrock Strings Orchestral Concert – this is happening on Saturday 2 July 2011 at 7.00pm at the Culver Centre, Daiglen Drive, South Ockendon. Membership of the Thurrock Strings Orchestra now stands at 35 young musicians. They will be delighting their audience with a wide and varied repertoire. Tickets are available on the door.
