JANE Bird WI Advisor oversaw the voting for the AGM meeting. The committee was returned and Margaret Clamp was voted in again as President. There were thanks for the committee and also for Margaret for the effort they have put in this past year. Everyone agreed they had all done a lot to improve the variety of speakers and running of the meetings. Treasurer Liz Wakefield especially has done a good job keeping the finances in order.
THE next Stifford Community Forum open meeting will be on Monday 19th May at the Baptist Church Hall, Premier Avenue, Sockets Heath Grays commencing at 7-30 pm. The speaker for the evening will be from the NHS, giving a presentation on the proposed changes to the NHS over the next five years
FOLLOWING an appeal to residents in Thurrock who may have mistakenly bought a number of firearms which had been stolen from a lorry in Basildon, a number of the weapons have already been recovered by police.
The shotguns and rifles, used for sporting purposes, were stolen from a lorry that had been parked on the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate on Friday, April 18. Following information given to police, detectives believe that the majority had been bought by people, in the run-up to the bank holiday weekend, with the mistaken belief that they were air weapons.
A MAN from east London is due to appear in court later this month (May) after he was charged with attempting to burgle a property in Stanford-le-Hope. Tommy Birkett was arrested at his home on Sunday morning (May 4) and subsequently charged with one count of attempted burglary relating to an incident at a house on King Street in Stanford-le-Hope on Wednesday, April 30.
THE collision happened near Orsett when the rider of white Honda motorcycle appears to have lost control of the machine while travelling on the southbound carriageway of the A1089 and struck a series of fence posts on the left-hand side of the carriageway and ended up in a field. This happened shortly after 7pm on Saturday, May 3. The rider had moments earlier been travelling on the eastbound carriageway of the A13.
Ryan Heapy 24, of Hobart Road, Tilbury, Daniel Harris 33 and Matthew Wells, 28 both of Godman Road, Chadwell St Mary and Ashley Henry 27 of no fixed address, are all charged with conspiring to steal from a motor vehicle and conspiracy to possess a firearm without a certificate.
SIX men from Thurrock will appear at Magistrates Court in Basildon later this month charged with conspiracy to steal Ford Transits, worth over £70,000, following a police operation to identify and arrest those responsible. The vans were found at a site in Wickford in October 2013.
ZAPPATiKA was formed in 2007 with the intention of performing some of Frank Zappa's music - but also to further develop the bands' own eclectic rock compositions. They have toured in various European countries with their live Zappa show, and in March 2013 they headlined the first night of Festival MOO-AH! in Corby, Northants.

AMBULANCE bosses in Thurrock say they need people to 'be prepared' to help curb the demand on services over the two long May weekends. With the first May bank holiday next week, the East of England Ambulance NHS Trust (EEAST) wants people to ensure they have well-equipped first aid kits, take more care enjoying the outdoors, and call 111 if their condition is less serious but needs attention.
FOUR men have this afternoon (Wednesday) been arrested in connection with theft of a number of firearms from a lorry in Basildon. The theft took place when four people were seen opening the back of a lorry which had been parked on the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate at approximately 1am on Friday, April 18.
POLICE are investigating an attempted robbery in Purfleet where the would-be robber entered the shop with a plastic gun demanding money but left empty handed. They are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
AMBULANCE service crew found a man with a facial injury in Clarence Road, Grays on Saturday, April 26 around 2.15am and called police. The man, in his 50s, did not speak English and the incident had been reported by a friend. The victim, who lives in Grays, was treated for a suspected broken nose at hospital. Police investigations later identified a possible scene in Cart Lane.
POLICE would like to hear from anyone who had an electronic tablet device stolen in the Grays area in early April. A 20-year-old Grays man was arrested on suspicion of theft on Friday April 4 after he was seen hiding in the garden of a house in Hathaway Road.
DETECTIVES are appealing for information following a burglary in Grays.
FOUR masked men walked through an unlocked door of a house on Elm Road shortly before 9:30pm on Thursday, April 24 and threatened the female homeowner with a knife, forcing her to hand over a quantity of cigarettes. They then left via a back door.
