SINCE YourThurrock launched we have become acquainted with some global names: Purfleet in West Australia, Corringham in Lincolnshire, Aveley in New South Wales and now Tilbury in Ontario.
Arsonists are believed to be responsible for a fire in a derelict church. Firefighters were called to the empty building in London Road at 7.50pm on Saturday.
In a prosecution brought by Thurrock Council, Rebecca Pearce, of Freemantle House, Tilbury, the court heard she had wrongly obtained nearly £15,000 between June 2007 and November 2009 from the council and the Department for Work and Pensions.
The police described a "nightmare scenario" of coaches, cars and taxi's congregating as drunken and drugged revellers spilled out onto the dark Rectory Road in Orsett. Chief Inspector Moor said: "One woman walked straight into the path of an on-coming coach. I managed to push her away from it just in time. "There could have been a death but I was met with a torrent of abuse by the crowd."

The man of the match was Abbey keeper Harry Ricketts as time after time he kept the Grays attack at bay. Critics may say that Gray should have tucked the chances away but his finger tips saves were a sight to see on a bone chillingly cold day.

Last year, portfolio holder for libraries and cultural services, cllr Lynn Worrall announced that the Chafford Hundred library would see its hours cuts. However what remains a mystery was the apparent lack of protest against the closure. This contrasted with Harlow magistrates court where key agencies worked together with councillors to co-ordinate a high profile campaign to keep their court open. They succeeded.
