Tunde makes a passionate plea for religious unity

Let us start today by embracing the various religions in Thurrock, attend the Diwali events; the joint Christmas carols; the Sikh temple. Learn about these religions and together we will live in peace and harmony as we understand each other.

Young agents “bond” with Hassenbrook

Pupils took part in a range of activities designed to stimulate and enhance their understanding of Science. Working in teams alongside Hassenbrook students the task was to find the whereabouts of a renowned enemy of Great Britain, previously having been foiled by British Intelligence, Dr Evil returns to seek revenge. A ransom note was received by ‘secret agents’ stating that his target was the Houses of Parliament.

Councillor appalled at “lack of action” to prevent tyre fire

After I heard about the fire I visited the scene and was more shocked to see that some of the remaining tyres were still stacked up on the street and in addition others had been stacked outside residents homes. I feel that residents and businesses have been let down and deserve to know why appropriate action had not been taken so I have insisted the Chief Executive carry out an investigation immediately."

Opening night was great. The show was packed and many stars and celebrities came to see the performance. At the end of the show I would bring up children onto the stage to help me sing a song. I was unaware that I actually brought up Mel B and Eddie Murphys child to sing with me. But I found out after the show when Mel B came up to me to thank me and her little girl asked me if I could do magic, ha ha.

Open Mic night at Orsett Hall is a great success

Here are two of the artistes we managed to film on the night . Georgia Strand, who as always gave a stunning set and a Chelmsford based band “ The Skylight Crowd” who really really impressed everyone.

Police probe begins after fire at Whitehall Lane tyre warehouse

Firefighters were called to a fire at a tyre warehouse in Whitehall Lane, Grays. Nine fire engines were called to the warehouse at just over midnight to tackle the blaze.

Classy fundraising event

On Friday the school helped raise funds as Oliver has been accepted for an operation in the United States where he would have to stay for around a month. Pupils came to class dressed as everything from cowboys to nurses. Oliver’s family is trying to raise £40,000 before April for the trip and op which will release the tension in his legs so that he may not need a wheelchair as he grows older.

Ormiston Park Academy Awards Night

WHEN THE Class of 2010 walked down Nethan Drive for their first day at school, it was called Aveley comprehensive., It then changed its name to Belhus Chase. Now it is Ormiston Park Academy (OPA). The school is changing and moving forward. What is clear is that they couldn't have done it without the class of 2010, who according to inspirational headteacher, Tess Walker, have been the trailblazers!

Council investigation launched into circumstances surrounding Darnley Road death

THURROCK Council have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Daniel Thomas in Darnley Road last year. The bottom line will be, could anyone have taken action that could have prevented the savage murder of Mr Thomas as well as prevented a situation that led to a teenage girl falling into a life of drug taking prostitution and murder?

Corringham dog reunited after eighteen months away

The toy poodle vanished without trace from a garden in Heybridge, Essex, in July 2009 while Corringham owners, Chris and Julia Moran were on holiday. For eighteen months they searched high and low with posters all over the Essex area.

Purfleet freight company Deon slammed in public inquiry

Adjourning the hearing until an unconfirmed date in February, Eastern Deputy Traffic Commissioner (DTC) Miles Dorrington said the Purfleet-based company had attempted to "paint itself in the best possible light" by bringing along preventative maintenance inspection (PMI) sheets covering two new DAF trucks purchased in November, eight photocopied sheets from the period covering June to December 2010, as well as no driver defect reports.

Criminal Justice Day at Gable Hall

Prison! Me? No Way! is a highly successful crime prevention workshop which visited Gable Hall School, Corringham, and Hassenbrook School, Stanford-le- Hope, following funding from the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership. Volunteer prison officers were joined by Essex Police, Essex Fire and Rescue Service, Thurrock Women’s Aid and local magistrates at the event. The message from all representatives was the same: committing a crime will affect your life, family, job prospects and ultimately your future.

Ilford Wanderers 2nd’s 3 v 17 Thurrock 4ths

The Thurrock pack were soon demonstrating their power and managed to take several balls against the head via hooker Lionel Hayward. This of course put Ilford under considerable pressure. A line in the Ilford 22 was pressured, they scrambled it back, and kicked out, the ball was fielded by full back Micky Simmons, who fed to flanker Rees Collins, who fed to Elliott Keefe, to winger Blane Daly, who showed a pretty set of heels to his wing, who fed back inside to Keefe, who duly went over wide out. An outstanding try.
