OCKENDON mum Julie Earle was, for years, like many people, who knew that they had "a book in them". For most people, it stops there, but not for Julie. Julie was inspired by her father and by childrens' authors such as JK Rowling to write a childrens novel. We sat down with Julie to hear about the Magical Gate.

THE Thurrock International Film Festival is well underway with lots of events still to come. Today (Friday 27th) sees the International short film category screening, with one filmmaker flying over from Ohio, USA to be there. Then at 7pm and 9pm respectively, Dirty Dancing and Independence Day will be screened.
ON Thursday 26 September, the Backstage Centre will host its first Music and Comedy Showcase, a free event to promote local talent. They are delighted to announce that Holly Hannigan will be performing, winner of the 2013 Thurrock Contemporary Musician of the Year Award.
SAFE, a play written by Thurrock's Luke Coldham won a number of awards at the Brentwood Festival. The play had already received glowing reviews after performing in London and Edinburgh.

CHAIR Joy Ridgewell welcomed Chadwell Forum Chairman Peter Saunders and his wife Carol who presented the group with a cheque for a grant of £400. This is a very welcome addition to our funds as we are off to a writing weekend at Riskin College in Oxford this weekend and this will greatly help with our expenses. Thanks was given to Tina Thompson who has been instrumental in arranging for this weekend.
IT LOOKS like the organisers of the Thameside Theatre sessions, "Your Voice" know talent when they see it. In 2011, they asked Romford singer, Lydia Lucy to be the guest performer.
THEY have an exciting new 9-hole golf event at Belhus Park on their new Forward Tees which enable beginners and juniors to improve their game. There is a great event for all abilities on September 22nd.
IT WAS a great night down at the Thameside, where funky beats and amazing grooves were pounding from the third floor. The whole event was organised by Liam from Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions. As he was busy on the wheels of steel, we spoke to Chloe Levelle about how the night came about.

STEVE and Simon were both Soul DJs that played the Top House pub in Aveley and The Prince of Wales pub in South Ockendon. Steve says “I used to go to the Goldmine when I wasn’t working myself. People would flock in from all around the country just to be part of the famous Soul scene. The Club was demolished over twenty years ago which has left us with just good memories”.
FREE Super Saturday Sessions will be taking place at all the Impulse Leisure centres in Thurrock this Saturday (7th September). The centres at Blackshots, Corringham and Belhus Park are inviting people to come along and try their new HIT (High Intensity Training) sessions and the launch of their new LES MILLS BODY PUMP and LES MILLS GRIT fitness sessions.
