Football: Dockers start off their pre-season

ON a warm afternoon at Lodge Avenue, Tilbury started there pre season with a 1-1 draw against an experienced Barking side. Two first half goals saw the sides share the Peter Webster Trophy for the second successive year.

Football: Grays first friendly sees win against Abbey

THE Academy in Loughton played host to Jody Brown's first game in charge of a Blues side today and with 23 players to look at, and 3 more missing for various reasons, this was a game that was never going to be about the result or the overall performance. Waltham Abbey also brought a large squad and both managers were able to get the most out of the game as Blues were able to field a different side in each half and the visitors opted for rolling substitutions. In hindsight, given the surprising sweltering conditions, it turned out to be the best possible arrangement for the players who, to a man, worked very hard in the heat.

Grays Athletic cancel troubled friendly against Hereford

WITH the current unrest around Hereford United and it's recent drop out of the football conference the Blues supporters were foremost in the mind of Swallow who said: "We wanted the supporters to be able to have a great day out and enjoy the city and maybe under better circumstances they could have done that but we think it is in the best interests of all parties to cancel the game."

WHAT was supposed to be a pre-season friendly is starting to feel quite the opposite as fans have called for the game between crisis-club Hereford United and Grays Athletic to be called off.

Grays Athletic appoint new manager Jody Brown as Ryan Kirby departs

Player-manager Ryan Kirby has decided to step down as manager and will leave the club due to family and work commitments. Former Arsenal trainee Kirby initially stepped back from hands-on management of the team in the latter part of last season with Andy Swallow taking on the reins to see the season out as the team played 25 games in 66 days.

THE chief executive officer of Grays Athletic, Joel Nathan, has become involved in attempts to rescue crisis-hit Hereford United. Hereford United, made famous after their FA Cup exploits in the seventies but their recent chequered history almost mirrors Grays Athletic's recent past.

Horndon through to national futsal finals

The event will be hosted by the @Futsal venue on the weekend of the 28th and 29th June and Horndon and the Hammers will be amongst the participants following regional success. They were victorious against teams from Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire recently at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City - now they’re keen for more.
