GRAYS let slip of a two goal lead to draw 2-2 against Harrow Borough. Many Grays fans are simply delighted to be dealing with mid-table battles whilst others are keen to see the team use these games to build a team for next season.
THURROCK were beaten by Dereham Town 3-1 at Ship Lane on Saturday afternoon, in the Ryman League Division One North. The Fleet dominated the opening exchanges but couldn't put away their chances. Dereham then seized the advantages putting three past Thurrock, including a Ryan Hawkins penalty, before Robert Clark fired in a late consolation.
ALEX Read’s 44th goal of the season was all that separated Aveley and Harlow as the Hawks consolidated a play-off spot with a 1-0 win at Mill Field. Read’s set-piece four minutes into the second half was the only real piece of quality seen in the final third all game with neither ‘keeper being tested often.
TILBURY returning to winning ways over form side Romford on Saturday. Both clubs have been under different fortunes recently, with Romford winning all of their last 8 games and Tilbury gaining just one point in the last 7, which also saw Tilbury failing to find the back of the net, but the Dockers came away with a well deserved 3 points.
EAST THURROCK grabbed three vital points with help from a brace by Sam Higgins as they won 2-0 against Canvey Island at Rookery Hill. Canvey started on the front foot with a number of dangerous attacks. Most of them were thwarted by the linesmen but they were a signal that Canvey had come for three points.
Great performance by the Rocks in a local derby that showed that they have what it takes to stay up. Third defeat in a week for the Fleet whose promotion chase is running out of steam.
WITH just seven games left, East Thurrock now find themselves in real trouble after losing 3-0 against league leaders Wealdstone at Rookery Hill. Goals by Charlie Penny in the 34th minute and two by Carl McCluskey in the 38th and 60th minute, condemned the Rocks to the second disappointing defeat in three days.
THINGS have got to the worrying stage again after this home defeat for The Rocks against mid-table Harrow Borough. Covo will have to do some thinking between now and Thursday when they face Wealdstone and then Canvey Island on Saturday.
THIS was a bad day at the office for Thurrock as they went down 2-1 to Waltham Abbey at Cappershaw Stadium. It also got worse for them a stop scorer, David Knight was sent off late into the second half.
However, in the end they couldn’t defy the onslaught of second half pressure from the home side but the point they won could prove pivotal in their relegation battle, while the home side now face the real possibility of dropping out of the top five after a slump in form – though it is slightly academic as their artificial pitch has ruled the out of the promotion picture following a Conference ruling that they will not accept anything other than turf next season.
The MILLER'S season may be petering out but they are continuing to get their heads down and grinding out the results.Goals by Lee Weemes and Kyle Asante guaranteed the three points for the team from Mill Field.
GRAYS Ath went down to a well organised Hampton and Richmond 3-1 at Mill Field on Saturday. It is hard for Grays to sustain any momentum at this time of the season. They produced a great performance against Margate on Thursday night but there can be no denying that this schedule is taking it out of them. Then again, it is taking it out of a lot of teams, the consequence of which is a lot of strange results.
EAST THURROCK take a backward step as they fail to break down Hampton and Richmond. Grays make life difficult for themselves as they lose to the bottom side, Cray Wanderers in a close encounter.
IT was only February 22nd when Grays slumped 4-1 at home to Canvey Island. Grays were then heading headlong towards the relegation zone. What a difference 29 days makes. Grays produced another excellent performance to beat the Met, who are a respectable, durable mid-table team.
