THE LEADER of Thurrock Council has expressed his delight at the news that Grays post office is set to return to Grays town centre. Speaking on Monday (28 April) he said: “It was back in June last year that WH Smiths shut in Grays and the Post Office lost its home. I was determined that the council should provide a temporary home for the Post Office which turned out to be for ten months.
THE Bata War Memorial was restored to its former glory in the latter part of 2013 in time for the Remembrance Day services. This involved a complete deep clean, repointing of the granite blocks, new paving and steps as well as new granite plaques. These plaques show the names of 81 Bata employees who died during the Second World War.

THE FUNERAL of John Scowen was how the former chair of Thurrock Arts Council would have wanted it. Over three hundred attended at the Corbets Tey crematorium. IN preparation for the festival, Pop Up has been holding weekly workshops with members of the Thurrock community and the Royal Opera House Learning and Participation and Bridge teams. THIS month Chairman Joy Ridgewell welcomed a visitor Gary Wade. At the TWC meeting our very entertaining speaker was Peter Jones. Peter has written several books beginning as a self-publisher he has also had books published by Harper Collins but has now set up his own publishing company. Peter was very helpful with advising the best ways go about getting work published, when questions were put to him.
THURROCK has had some interesting visitors over the last few weeks in the form of decorative elephant statues on their way to intu Lakeside. These beautiful hand painted elephants are part of a 30-strong herd that is making its way across Essex to the shopping centre in Thurrock.
