OCKENDON resident, Deborah Awe has continued her fundraising efforts for The Dream Factory charity by organising an event at her school. Brentwood prep, year 4 pupil Deborah, eight, was first struck by the work of the charity when she met a new friend who had an incurable condition. She felt so moved that she decided to do something to help and was keen to involve her fellow pupils to arrange a charity day with a difference.
COME to a Coffee Morning at St Mary’s Church Hall, Dock Road, Little Thurrock, on Saturday 25th January from 10-12 noon. There will be books, cakes and a bring and buy stall as well as a raffle.

SHOPPERS at Co-op stores in Thurrock will be offered compostable carrier bags in a bid to reduce the number of plastic bags going to landfill and thereby boost recycling. People shopping at Co-op will be able to carry their items home and then re-use the bags as bin-liners in their food waste caddy.
THE 11TH THURROCK Civic Awards are going to be a little bit different with this year’s Mayor’s Award available for people to vote online. Mayor, Cllr Tony Fish, has put forward five nominees – organisations and/or people – who have piqued his interest in his time in office.
THURROCK Council launched its Veterans’ Charter nearly two years ago and is now asking if it needs updating. In late November, the council agreed a motion from Cllr Rob Gledhill that ““The Council request that a review be carried out of the implementation of the Veteran’s Charter and publish the results before its second anniversary (March 2014), to ensure that the commitment we signed up to is working in Thurrock?”
TRACEY Douglas 51 and Chris Salton 51 from Fobbing were recently crowned Cambridge Weight Plan Regional Consultants of the year for East Anglia as well as being one of the companies top 50 sales people, winning a holiday in the process! Tracey started training as a Cambridge Weight Plan Consultant in November 2011 after losing weight on the diet herself. The couple met after both their marriages broke down and decided to start a new path together and became full time Cambridge Weight Plan Consultants in 2012 helping many people lose weight. Tracey said: "We now see more than 80 people a week and seeing our clients change their lives for the better is truly inspirational".

PEOPLE are being warned about a man posing as a trading standards officer, following an incident in Aveley on Friday (10 January). Essex Police have been informed of the incident where the man provided fake ID in an effort to obtain money from residents.
The hats, which are colourful and furry, are styled to look like characters from Despicable Me, Hello Kitty and Angry Birds, as well as other animal characters. They feature two “arms” with a bobble on the end, one of which has an eyelet to secure both arms together. However, this does not detach easily and could cause serious injury or even death.
A VETERAN Chadwell St Mary cyclist will once again be pedalling around the borough for charity. Stanley Wall has become a familiar fixture over the years as the 87-year-old flies by those half his age on his trusty bike.

AN AVELEY man took on the world of consonants and vowels as he competed in an episode of popular Channel 4 quiz show, Countdown. Danny Davey took on a very skilful Bobby Banerjee who had already won a couple of rounds.
BURGLARS struck at a house in Orsett and made off with two cars. The burglary in The Green, Orsett happened between 11pm on Friday January 10th and 6.45am on Saturday January 11th.
