Ava’s a smart cookie as she beats the street

POINTS will be given a boost on Friday 11 July when Trevor Rawson of Tai Chi for Health (Essex) begins his own personal challenge at midnight. He will be tapping Thurrock’s 104 Beat Boxes in one session by walking, jogging and cycling a distance of 67 miles. Trevor’s chosen charity is Sugarloaf Riding for the Disabled.

Royal Opera’s Fused brings Thurrock together

On Saturday RM19, the Royal Opera House youth vocal group in Thurrock, performed the world premiere of A Little Thing Called Life. The performance marked the culmination of several months’ work during which RM19 has been exploring concepts of remembrance, conflict and loss - themes drawn from within the Requiem and the centenary of World War I - to create an original piece incorporating music, drama and design.

Polly goes back to the Convent to encourage girls to chase “hopes and dreams”.

Polly led a whole school assembly encouraging girls to think about the hopes and dreams that they have for their futures and how to plan the steps that will make these hopes and dreams a reality. Pupils listened with interest to Polly’s story of how she made the decision to become a Parliamentary candidate and the route she had taken to get to this point in her career, including working for the BBC as a reporter on Radio 1’s Newsbeat.

Rotary of Corringham Thameside elect youngest ever president

THE Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside is pleased to announce that they have been successful in obtaining a grant from the National Lottery of £5,000. The money will be spent on replacing a number of items of equipment to help the club to raise its profile within the community and to attract new members.

WE JUST thought we would let you know that the Your Thurrock website will be changing soon. We know that you all probably like the site the way it is but this change is tied in with a new partnership for Your Thurrock and so these are exciting times for us.

South Essex College student makes his mark

THE Tovi EcoPark which has been named after the site’s Saxon heritage is currently being built alongside the A127, and will process black bag waste, recovering further items which can be recycled and treating the left over waste to reduce its environmental impact.  The facility will be capable of treating up to 417,000 tonnes of municipal waste a year.

Weekend of fun as crowds flock to Stanford Festivals

THE WEATHER held off as hundreds of residents flocked to the Stanford Music Festival on Saturday and Stanford Street Festival on Sunday. The whole weekend was testament to both the hard work undertaken by the organising committees as well as the sense of community in Stanford-le-Hope.

E-fit of man wanted after female driver of white range rover assaulted

The attack happened at the junction of Arisdale Avenue and West Road shortly before 9:30am on Wednesday, July 2 when the female driver of a white Range Rover was approached by the passenger of a car which had been behind her. He then started punching her before he returned back to the car and was driven off.

Fundraiser to help Young Carers in Thurrock

STUDENTS and staff wore yellow to mark the day and gave donations to the cause. Sarah Allen, Centre Manager of the Young Carers Organisation, said: "A big thank you to Palmer's College staff and students for the donation, which will help towards the daily transport costs for our young carers."

Man sought after woman threatened in Corringham

Officers are looking to trace the man pictured in CCTV following reports a local woman aged in her 20s was threated while in Southend Road at around 9pm on June 7. Anyone who recognises the man pictured is asked to contact Pc Paul Lamb at Grays police station on 101.

WHEN this reporter went to visit the Thurrock Community Chorus on a dark evening in January at what was their first rehearsal for Verdi's Requiem, he did go away thinking that this was very very ambitious and although the dictum remains that a mans reach should exceed his grasp etc, you did wonder.....
