ESSEX POLICE are investigating an allegation of theft from the Thurrock Council offices in Grays. Officers were contacted last week in relation to what is understood to be a painting.
The incident occurred when the occupants of a car were approached by two men in Belhus Park Leisure Centre car park shortly before 8pm on Thursday, October 6. These men tried to snatch the ignition keys from the owner while he was in the car, but he challenged them.
Cllr Nicklen said: "Criminals are targeting road signs and traffic furniture in and around the Stanford bypass area and I want it to stop. "All over Stanford there are poles with no boards on them which is an eye sore and is also causing uncertainty for drivers.
A police officer from the commercial vehicle unit attended three Thurrock locations on Friday, October 14, between 3-11pm, to assist licensing officers from the local council with an ongoing programme of taxi checks.

A GRAYS man escaped jail despite assaulting a police officer on the day he was given a community order. Danny Seeley, 23, Bridge Road, Grays pled guilty at Basildon magistrates court to a string of charges for theft, criminal damage and assault over July and August.
The lorry, loaded with smuggled alcohol, was seized by Customs officials and investigations showed that the load amounted to a total excise duty evasion of about £25,000. Five other vehicles were seized for having no insurance.

The court heard that Mr Coombes became so fearful that he changed his routes to and from his home, asked friends to drop him off. However, no matter where he went, Woodham seemed to appear. He threatened him with a bottle at South Ockendon railway station and always appeared to be near key shops in Canterbury Parade and North Road when Mr Coombes went shopping.
