Police warning after Grays ATM tampered with

PCSO Coralee Baxendale said: "We are urging people to keep a watch out around cash machines. If you see someone watching people withdraw cash or someone using the machines suspiciously, I urge you to contact police as soon as possible. Most people use cash machines to withdraw their hard-earned money, and it is not fair that a thief may get that instead, so if you know anything, please call us.”

Update: Man detained after siege ends

A 38-year-old man has been detained following negotiations with police officers in Calcutta Road, Tilbury. Police were called to the address just before 1am this morning, Tuesday, July 12, following concerns for the man’s mental welfare.

Civic Square Tilbury cordoned off as man holds police at bay

POLICE AND FIRE CREWS have cordoned off Civic Square Tilbury as officers negotiate with a man with a history of mental health problems. Crews were called at just after 1am to his flat in Civic Square. They have been negotiating since then.

Fraudster’s suspended sentence

The investigator established that Howick had a number of bank accounts that had not been declared when he made his claims. These contained savings and income from an occupational pension. Investigations also revealed Mr Howick was living a comfortable lifestyle buying expensive clothes and furniture, having accounts with Sky and Virgin Media and having various investment policies.

Police hunt five after car abandoned in Chadwell

THREE MEN AND two women were being hunted by the police last night after they abandoned a stolen VW Golf yesterday afternoon (Saturday). The five abandoned the vehicle in the middle of Brentwood Road close to the cemetery gates throwing afternoon traffic into chaos.

Man held after armed siege in Orsett

Police were called after a man went into premises on Ongar Hall Farm Estate, Brentwood Road, at around 2.40pm on Thursday, July 7, 2011 and threatened three people with a weapon. Officers negotiated with the man who was arrested about an hour later.

Chadwell St Mary Walkabout Day

Previous discussions and consultation with the community highlighted a large number of issues from street cleansing to highways. These were the focus of activities by Thurrock Council Officers joined by Police Community Safety Officers and the Mobile Police Unit. The PCSO’s also worked into the evening with staff from the local youth service.

Stabbing outside Thameside Theatre in Grays

A STABBING took place outside the Thameside Theatre this afternoon in Orsett Road, Grays. Police taped off the area after the incident took place around 3.30 pm on the busy street.

Robbery at South Ockendon bakery

Investigating officer, Dc Paul O'Callaghan, said: “We believe the suspect was using a light-coloured saloon-type vehicle, which was seen parked in Deveron Gardens an hour before the robbery, so if you saw this, or saw a man acting suspiciously before or after the incident, you could help us catch who did this, so we need to speak to you. The woman was thankfully uninjured but this would have really shaken her up.”

Underagers caught in booze and fags sting operation

The operation focused on the area around Lodge Lane which is now subject to a Dispersal Order providing additional powers to the police allowing them to "disperse” groups of people who are hanging around in the area. The Dispersal Order was introduced at the end of June following complaints by residents about anti-social behaviour.

Sponsors included the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership; Chair Superintendent Ivor Harvey handed out the prizes of Lakeside vouchers. Burglary at Bulphan Post Office

Investigating officer, Dc Paul O'Callaghan, said: "We need to hear from anyone that was in the area that may have seen a vehicle pull up outside the post office with men inside matching this description, and I am confident that someone may have noticed them given that it happened in the middle of the afternoon. If you know or saw anything, we want to hear from you.”

Driver in fatal Corringham crash named

The 25 year old man who died following a crash in Corringham on June 23 has been identified as Daniel Lary, from High Street, Aveley. Mr Lary was driving a Nissan car along Lampits Hill, Corringham, around 4.50pm (June 23) when the car left the road and collided with a lamppost.
