Grays woman found with serious injuries in Chelmsford

Around 1.40am this morning, Friday, June 3 a pedestrian was found on Victoria Road Chelmsford with serious leg and other injuries. It is currently unknown how she received these injuries but there is a possibility that she was in collsion with a vehicle that will have a damaged headlamp cover and police are seeking this vehicle.

Summer drink driving campaign in Essex begins with Corringham mother’s testimony

Sam Matkin had been on his way out to meet up with friends when he was killed by a drink driver a week before Christmas in 2006. The 22-year-old was killed almost instantly when a car travelling the wrong way on the A13 smashed into his Ford Fiesta on December 16. The driver was found to be three times over the legal drink drive limit and jailed for five years. Sam’s mum Christine Matkin has bravely agreed to tell her story in a filmed interview in the hope it will make drivers think twice about getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol. She said: "If I can stop just one person being killed by a drink driver I’ll do whatever I can.

Grays man in Spanish court over Boiler-room “Scam”

A GRAYS man is among a gang of Britons who appeared in a Spanish court accused of ripping off tens of millions of pounds in one of Europe's biggest boiler room scams. It is reported that Chris Savva, 22, Grays, is among the 15 suspected con-artists that detectives believe were cold-calling thousands of UK residents and pressurising them into parting with their savings for non-existent shares.

Man pleads guilty to M25 fatal crash

Giles Furnival, 33 from Winfields, Basildon pleaded guilty yesterday (May 27) at Basildon Crown Court to causing the death of Laura Williams from Chelmsford by dangerous driving.

Appeal to track down fly-tipper

The black and blue rubble bags are thought to have been left overnight Sunday to Monday May 22nd to 23rd. They contained a variety of rubbish, a draw from a bedside cabinet and a number of unique white ceramic decorations (pictured).

Anti-boy racer scheme at Lakeside to begin tomorrow

Chief Inspector Dick Thomas, Essex Police acting head of road policing, said:“Essex Police welcomes the trial of the new road layout. Over a period of time now police have expressed safety concerns about the dangerous way in which this road layout is used by a significant number of drivers. Whilst police will continue to enforce traffic offences whenever possible this partnership approach in changing the road layout will provide a more sustainable way of enforcing road safety. The change has come about after a multi-agency agreement that this was a necessary course to take."

Grays woman sentenced over Benefit Fraud

The court heard that Income Support, Carer’s Allowance, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit were all claimed by Seaton from September 2005 to April 2010 as she claimed she was unable to work due to caring full time for a relative. However in May 2006 she began working for a local betting shop, later progressing to the position of deputy manager. She did not declare this and as a result of a joint investigation between the council and the DWP, it was discovered that £35,351.17 had been fraudulently obtained between May 2006 and April 2010.

Man struck down at Lakeside

Police are appealing for any witnesses to a collision between a car and pedestrian at Lakeside, Thurrock on May 12 that has left the pedestrian with serious injuries. Around 10pm on May 12 an Audi car driven by a 24 year old man from Chelmsford was in collision with a 31 year old man from Grays on the B186 West Thurrock Way near to the junction with the A126 roundabout at Lakeside.

Sickening assault near colleges leaves teen with brain injuries

At approximately 1.25am a large group of young men, white and aged about 19-20 years old, chased after the young victim and his friends and caught the 17 year old lad who was then attacked with weapons, including wooden bats, and was knocked unconscious. The victim's friends managed to escape and call police.

Grays fly-tipper fined

A 36-year-old man from Grays has been fined £200 and ordered to pay £200 costs and a £15 victim surcharge after pleading guilty to fly tipping. Grant Clarke, of Crammavill Street, appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court on Wednesday May 18th. The court heard he was witnessed dumping a boot load of rubbish at the side of Gumley Road, Grays, by Essex Police in October 2010.

Anglers warned by police to hold onto their tackle

POLICE across the Corringham and Stanford-le-Hope area are urging fishing enthusiasts to make sure they lock up their equipment securely after several thefts involving fishing equipment. In Gordon Road, Stanford-le-Hope, between 7pm on Wednesday, May 11 and 4pm on Thursday, May 12 a suspect gained entry to an insecure Ford car and stole fishing clothing worth an estimated £200 and £15 loose change.

Police warn public in Thurrock over street robberies

In one of the incidents, at 4.40pm on Friday, May 6 in Grays High Street, a 29-year-old woman was walking on the pavement when a suspect grabbed her by the wrist to snatch her Blackberry mobile phone from her hand, worth an estimated £250. She didn’t sustain any visible injuries, but would have been left very shaken by the ordeal.

Four men bailed following death of pony

Four men arrested in connection with the death of a horse at a farm in North Stifford have been released on bail. A pony was found at the farm on Monday, May 9, with injuries which proved to be fatal.
