After I heard about the fire I visited the scene and was more shocked to see that some of the remaining tyres were still stacked up on the street and in addition others had been stacked outside residents homes. I feel that residents and businesses have been let down and deserve to know why appropriate action had not been taken so I have insisted the Chief Executive carry out an investigation immediately."
Firefighters were called to a fire at a tyre warehouse in Whitehall Lane, Grays. Nine fire engines were called to the warehouse at just over midnight to tackle the blaze.
Shadow cabinet member for public protection, cllr James Halden said: “The Labour council has laid out a plan to cut £230,000 out of community policing. While Cllr Rice tried to duck the question by citing the coalition cuts but the Conservative group is only interested in Thurrock, right here right now!”
THURROCK Council have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Daniel Thomas in Darnley Road last year. The bottom line will be, could anyone have taken action that could have prevented the savage murder of Mr Thomas as well as prevented a situation that led to a teenage girl falling into a life of drug taking prostitution and murder?
Prison! Me? No Way! is a highly successful crime prevention workshop which visited Gable Hall School, Corringham, and Hassenbrook School, Stanford-le- Hope, following funding from the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership. Volunteer prison officers were joined by Essex Police, Essex Fire and Rescue Service, Thurrock Women’s Aid and local magistrates at the event. 19 year old Priscilla Scamp has today, (January 28), been sentenced to a minimum of 18 years imprisonment for the murder of Daniel Thomas at his home in Grays last year. Sentencing HH Judge Gratwicke said that Scamp was a serial liar and she had killed Thomas in a vicious, callous and frenzied attack.
However what remains a mystery was the apparent lack of protest against the closure. This contrasted with Harlow magistrates court where key agencies worked together with councillors to co-ordinate a high profile campaign to keep their court open. They succeeded.
From the age of sixteen, she was booted out of her own home and living in a shed in the street in River Court, Purfleet. Then onto the homeless hostel at Charles Street. For while she stayed at the home of a (then) friend until she was thrown out on suspicion of stealing. Then she came across Daniel Thomas and his flat in Darnley Road. The narrative of daily life as read out in court for Priscilla was depressing. There were no witty asides, no "Shameless satire". Priscilla was no Morven Callar. It was a tale of skunk, whizz, sniff, puff, mandrax, white lightning, breezers, wine, fags.
PURFLEET TEENAGE prostitute, Priscilla Scamp was found guilty of the murder of 59-year-old Daniel Thomas at his flat at 38a Darnley Road, Grays in April last year. The jury of seven men and five women, sitting at Chelmsford Crown Court took just 90 minutes to find Scamp guilty of the murder.
THESE ARE vital times for Essex Police. According to Joint Chair of the Essex Police Federation, Tony Rayner, Essex Police under Operation Apex, spent the last few years, being re-shaped, so that hundreds of extra police officers could be employed. The benefits of that were increased manning, not just of street patrols but of squads including Fraud, Serious Crime, Sexual Investigation and Road Traffic to ensure the people of Essex had a police force fit for the twenty-first century.

Final day of evidence: The inserted extracts warn Scamp not to: "Grass up Kieran Wood to CID" The letters go on to advise her that not "grassing" him up "Will save your families life." and "I hope you said you did it. You will never prove your innocence. I know Kieran did it." The court also heard that the pregnancy scans of twins that Scamp showed to several people had infact been downloaded from a South African blog on the internet, cut out and placed in a folder.
