NEWLY qualified teachers (NQTs) are set to flock to Hathaway Academy on Tuesday as part of a major recruitment drive at the Grays school. An intensive advertising campaign has been conducted over the last few weeks at the school that is setting about a major transformation under new principal James Howarth.
THE PUPIL REFERRAL Unit (PRU) in Thurrock is set to move from South Ockendon to Tilbury. The ruling Labour cabinet has recommended that a £2.8 million school will be operating in 2015. The plan is to move the current school from the Culver Centre in South Ockendon to the site of the former Jack Lobley School, in Leicester Road, Tilbury.
A FASCINATING report into the social landscape in Thurrock was out before the Thurrock ruling Labour cabinet last week. The Fairness in Thurrock review was published earlier this month and its aim is to assess and then address many of the inequalities in health that permeate Thurrock.
PALMER'S College and the Essex County FA are reflecting on the success of the latest completed ‘Team Nineteen’ League during the 2013/14 academic year, a competition which forms part of a project with The FA to help address the drop off in football participation for 16-19-year-olds.

THE SUPER-head at Stifford Clays primary school has lashed out at Ofsted after his school was told that it "Required Improvement". Great things had been expected of the award-winning Stifford Clays head, Anthony Peltier, when he was head-hunted to the job in 2012.
HOLLYWOOD star Russell Brand dropped in on his old school last week as a special treat for all the students. Russell went to the school a few years ago, when it was called Grays School.
THE event honoured Achievement award winners aged 11-25 who received medallions to go with their framed certificate and a cheque for £200, already presented. They were nominated by their peers and leaders, winning awards for a variety of achievements but mostly for doing their best.
The event is organised annually with the children, aged up to 11, decorating their own Easter bonnets, before parading them on the walk to the local church.
The morning was a big success and the children had a wonderful time.
KINDER-hearted Tescos has come to the rescue after thieves struck burgled a school in Thurrock. The thieves stole 200 Easter eggs planned to be used in an egg hunt by pupils at Chadwell St Mary Primary School on Thursday.

Both students were entered into the Society of Biology Olympiad 2014 just before Christmas and had to undergo a series of tests including a 90 question test online, completed in less than two hours, under supervision. A2 student Emily was awarded a bronze medal for her efforts and has been invited to a classy awards ceremony at the Royal Society of Biology where she will get to meet Professor Alice Roberts, known for presenting BB2’s Wild Swimming and The Incredible Human Journey.
THE SPONSORS responsible for Hathaway Academy, formerly Grays School, have been barred from opening any more schools, because of serious concerns about the education being provided to children. They have been told they can’t open new free schools or academies until they prove that pupils at their existing colleges “get a good education”.
The older students from the Erriff Drive school talked to the younger children about their favourite books and guided them through the quizzes and games. Prizes were awarded for the highest marks in the book quiz and all the Bonnygate students left with stickers, bookmarks, pens, and a range of information for parents to help them improve their reading.
