Grays School: Head-teacher quits

GRAYS SCHOOL and Media Arts College have officially announced that head-teacher Lynn Ibeji has stood down from her post. In a short statement, the school stated: "Lynn Ibeji has decided to leave the school by mutual agreement. We wish her all the best for the future."

Harris Academy open up learning resource centre

HARRIS ACADEMY (Chafford Hundred) have officially opened their learning resource centre. The centre is now a learning hub for all the students in the academy.

Media Muggles enjoy the magic of the Harry Potter Studio Tour

Students were transported to the great hall of Hogwarts and a multitude of sets, costumes and props used across all eight of the blockbusting films. Pretty much every inch of this Studio was filled with sets and pieces from all of the films. To say it was vast just doesn’t cover it as the horizon just went on and on with its sets and costumes and more sets, each one instantly recognisable.

Stifford Infants paint a jubilee picture

Laura Costen, Art Co-Coordinator, thanked Jonathan for his presentation and then introduced the children to their first activity – to produce a portrait of the queen which will be entered into a national competition. She also thanked the children for contributing to the ‘family bunting project’ over the last few weeks. 70 metres of bunting has been made and used to decorate the hall and the children saw their impressive efforts for the first time.

Treetops film-maker launches his first DVD

TREETOPS YEAR 10 student, Samuel Turner is a considerable talent. His short animated film, "Russia and the Vegetable Man" was shortlisted at the Southend Arts Festival. YT bumped into Sam at the Treetops Summer Fete where he was selling copies of his film.

Mrs Ibeji came to the school in 2008 after it fell into special measures under head Graham Winter. Mrs Ibeji got the school out of special measures and saw exam results improve. Unfortunately, the results palled in comparison with other schools such as Ormiston Park Academy and the Gateway Academy.

William Edwards shine in regional stages of English schools

ON A pleasant Friday afternoon, William Edwards track and field team performed very well in the first "county" round of the English Schools team champs.

Staff at the centre as well as school staff were very impressed with the way the students threw themselves into every challenge including kayaking, abseiling, climbing as well as a number of problem-solving tasks. Teacher, Mr McCulloch said: I was very impressed with the discipline the students displayed. They have been a credit to the school."

Primary school apologises it “deeply humiliated” ADHD pupil

After being found guilty of discrimination at a tribunal, East Tilbury Infant School, offered 'unreserved apologies' for its 'inadequate' treatment of Bobby. The youngster, now aged 8, was left so traumatised he drew a heartbreaking picture of himself with two teachers and a speech bubble which said - 'I don’t exist'.

William Edwards collect over £800 for cancer charity

WILLIAM Edwards’s school has collected £8oo pounds for the charity ‘Teenage Cancer Trust’. Mrs. Vicki Bowden from ‘Teenage Cancer Trust’ said: "It was a fantastic amount that would make a tremendous difference to young people suffering from cancer’’.

The Gateway Learning Community has its first Primary Academy

Since Richard became headteacher of the old Lansdowne Primary School in September 2010, he has been working with Mr Sadler and Mrs Reid from Herringham School to prepare the way to becoming an Academy “Things are changing rapidly,” he said. “We have introduced the International Primary Curriculum to the Academy and are using our new freedoms to create an exciting place to learn where everybody can do well.”
