There were packed audiences at Stifford Clays Infant and Nursery School this week. The pupils put on five performances of a concert based on the Nativity story.
THE Gable Hall Xmas showcase is always guaranteed to illustrate the depth of artistic talent the school has on offer. The two hour spectacular on Wednesday night went from year 7 dance to AS level drama.
A TILBURY primary school was celebrating today after achieving a perfect score in their SATS results.
St Mary's Catholic primary school in Calcutta Road, Tilbury achieved the highest mark in the borough with 100% of the pupils achieving Level 4 in both English and Maths.
What has been remarkable about the inspection report is that in some categories the school has gone from special measures, leapfrogged over "Satisfactory" and been awarded a "Good". The report makes marked reference to the stellar leadership and the markedly improved teaching and good progress of the pupils. It also points to the improvement in pastoral care and support as well as many other plus points.
Chafford's drama teacher Amy Sewell is one of the best for getting the best out of her students and her dress rehearsal style is second to none. For outsiders, you can't believe it is only five hours until curtain up on the three evening run for Little Shop of Horrors but we are confident it will be fine.
REHEARSALS for all the Christmas shows were buried under the blizzards but in true tradition, the shows went on. Gateway Academy put on a two hour spectacular which showcased the incredible talent across the years at the school.
Mark Vinall, Principal, said, “This was a fantastic event to be a part of, and I’m really pleased that the students and staff got behind us and donated so much money. I’d like to thank the Student Executive for their extra donation – I hope the money we raised at Palmer’s will make a difference.”
THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle Price was over-joyed that William Edwards school and sports college has been rated as "Outstanding" after an Ofsted inspection. While interviewing Jackie on Saturday in the constituency, Jackie wanted to make special mention of the school's success.
THERE is a real feel of "We are all in this together" at Quarry Hill in Grays. Everyone loves the school and does their utmost to help. One of the best examples is the Friends of Quarry Hill.
Palmer's College Principal, Mark Vinall, recently visited China as a guest of their Ministry of Education to strengthen educational and cultural links between the countries, and encourage the teaching of chinese languages in the UK.
Thurrock has only 10% of students going on to further education. With the educational maintenance allowance going, Aim Higher going and now the imposition of tuition fees, the key question is: "What hope is there for Thurrock students?"
IT WAS a double celebration for William Edwards school as they were adjudged outstanding by Ofsted in the same week where popular deputy head Steve Munday was appointed headteacher of the Stifford Clays school. There were celebrations throughout the school as headteacher John King announced all the good news at a special assembly at the school this morning.
A student who did not wish to be named said: "We've come but so many of our friends have simply decided not to go to university. Hardly any student in Thurrock go to univ. There will be even less now." We asked Jack what he thought of the police activity. He said: "I have seen small pockets of aggressive police officers, getting into protestors faces. I saw one grab a protestor by the face and throw him to the ground."
THE LYRICS to the song were: "My future's so bright that I got to wear shades". There is a definite positive vibe at the Gateway Academy that all the staff, students and parents feel the school has never been in a stronger position and yet has endless possibilities to improve.
The concert will feature performances from a number of Thurrock Music Services string ensembles and also feature a number of guest solo performances. Tickets are available on the door for £4.00 each. Children under 18 years and OAPs are free! We hope to see you there.
