Interviewing the students, it is clear that they put in a great deal of work. We spoke to Lydia Cranefield and Vikki Teasdale. What they stress is the amount of coursework they completed in subjects such as Art and Geography.
The students were queuing up at just before 10am at the Southend Road school to get the results. Once in the hall, they opened their envelopes and sure enough, there were shrieks of delight as they all realised that all those months and years of hard work had come to fruition.
ORMISTON PARK ACADEMY improved their 5 GCSE's A* to C (including English and Maths) by a phenomenal 15% in what may well be seen as a real breakthrough year for the school.
Chafford Hundred are delighted that they have reached the top of the chart. Third in 2008, second in 2009 and now top with an increase of over 17%!
But look at St Clere's, a very very impressive 15% improvement in the year that there Ofsted gained six outstandings!

IN JULY, the Society for All Artist’s (the SAA) held its exhibition, “It’s all about Art”, at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London. At a prize giving ceremony held on 24th July Peggy Randall, the chairman/founder of the Thurrock Society for Artists with Disabilities, was awarded the ‘SAA 2010 Painting Bursary’ by the chairman of the SAA, John Hope-Hawkins.
Ruhi has completed his A/S level in Maths achieving A grade (three years early) with scores of 100%, 98% and 98% for the three module.
Karine has completed two modules out of the three for A/S Maths and has achieved an A grade in both, getting over 90%.
68% of A-level students gained A, B or C grades whilst an incredible 40% of the College’s A-level students attained ‘high’ A*/A/B grades. This year also saw 51 students gain A* grades with one exceptional student achieving four A*s. 31 students gained either three A* grades or three A’s.
"I was particularly pleased to see that, in spite of the focus that has necessarily been placed on performance in core curriculum subjects, the school has received an ‘outstanding’ rating for the effectiveness of care, guidance and support".
